Template:MacBook models The OLED-basted MacBook Pro is a laptop in the MacBook family developed by Apple. It will be the first Mac to use a touch-screen previously used only in the iPhone and iPad series, along with an OLED display. It will be announced on October 28, 2026, it is positioned as the high-end model in the MacBook lineup, below the MacBook Air, MacBook Neo and MacBook Pro.[lower-alpha 1]
History
The technology behind the OLED MacBook Pro was in development for three years, starting as far back as 2023.[1] Early reports about the touch-screen MacBook began circulating as early as June 2026,[2][3] and suggested that Apple was planning a MacBook with a touch screen, which would be one of several major upgrades.[4] Other reports included the inclusion of a Dynamic Island, an OLED display, and the use of Apple M6 Pro and M6 Max chips.[5][6][4]
In June 2026, Bloomberg reported that Apple would not develop the M6 Pro, and M6 Max chips, because Apple reportedly doesn't want to fall behind in the AI race, focusing on future chips, and that future devices would be released with either a older Apple M5 Max chip, or the release could be significantly delayed.[7][8] Mark Gurman reported that the new MacBook would use the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.[9]
In July 2026, The Elec reported that the OLED touch panel was to be produced by Samsung Display. Apple would supply the OLED touch panel by LG Display or BOE Technology, though it suffered yield and efficiency issues.[10][11]
In October 2026, Mark Gurman reported that the OLED MacBook Pro would feature a significantly lighter design.[12][13] Code in the macOS 27.2 beta 3 added touch-specific gestures support to Apple apps, hinting touchscreen support.[14][15] Before its official announcement, MacRumors reported that Apple could've considered using the "MacBook Ultra" branding, but opted for the "MacBook Pro" branding instead.[16]
Launch
On October 1, 2026, Mark Gurman reported that Apple would launch the OLED MacBook Pro in October or November.[17][18] Soon after, Bloomberg reported that Apple would launch the OLED MacBook Pro on October 27, alongside the OLED iPad mini,[19][20] with reports suggests a two-day event to showcase new Apple products in Los Angeles.[21] On October 15, 2026, Mark Gurman reported that Apple was inviting media to the October 28 launch experience,[22][23] and that the OLED MacBook Pro would go on sale by November 6, 2026.[24] An Apple event with the tagline "Pro and Tell" will showcase the OLED MacBook Pro alongside the OLED iPad Mini on October 28, 2026.[25][26]
