History[edit]
In 2019, the club was promoted from Division 1 to the Premier League and in 2020 it finished in 4th place in its first season in the Premier League. Maddington White City FC has a long and interesting history. It was established approximately 40 years ago as ‘Booragoon Zavicaj’ by European immigrants who arrived to Australia from Serbia. The clubs formative years were nomadic, with home games first played at Harold Rossiter Park in Kensington followed by Woodville Reserve in North Perth.
In 1981, the club played its first season of organised football in the Sunday Amatuer League Division 4 competition where it finished in third place. In 1982, Zavicaj made the switch from the Amatuer League to the State League where it competed in Division 4. The move proved to be successful, with the club winning the league in its first season to gain promotion to Division 3 for 1983. In 1990, the state league was restructured to three divisions with Zavicaj competing in the third tier. The club finished 7th in a 15 team competition in 1990 but in 1991, the club would play its final season as ‘Booragoon Zavicaj’. In 1992, a decision was made to merge with Dianella Serbia and to create one strong and united Serbian team in the State League. The merger was initially successful, with Dianella finishing 4th in 1992 and then winning Division 2 in 1993. However, the merger did not last long and the two clubs separated in 1994.
Following its separation with Dianella, the club turned its attention to the construction of the Serbian Community Centre in Maddington on land that it purchased in the 1980’s. In 2000, the Serbian Community Centre was constructed with a football pitch at the rear of the club providing an opportunity for football to restart. The club was named Maddington Eagles and played its first season in division 5 of the Sunday Amatuer competition. Over the course of the next 20 years, Maddington Eagles evolved into Maddington White City and slowly worked its way up the football pyramid.
