Madeleine Louise Lynch Dungy (born 1986) is an American historian. As of 2023, she is employed as a researcher at the Institute for Contemporary History, NTNU.[1]

After earning a B.A. from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2009 and an M.A. in modern British and European history from University of Oxford in 2011, she continued her studies at Harvard University. She completed her PhD there in 2017, with the dissertation Peace, Power, and Economic Order: International Rivalry and Cooperation in European Trade Politics 1900–1930.[2]

After completing her PhD, she worked at several European universities before being employed at NTNU in 2021.

At NTNU, she works with researcher Mats Ingulstad on the project The Fate of Nations: Natural Resources and Historical Development, 1880-2015. Her research focuses on international trade regulations at the start of the 20th century, especially within the League of Nations. She is currently (as of 2023) developing a new project focusing on economic migration.[1]

In 2023, she was awarded the ERC Starting Grant of nearly 16.5 million Norwegian kroner from the European Research Council, to research "Fortress Europe". The term "Festung Europa" (Fortress Europe), originally used about parts of Europe occupied by Germany during World War II, is here given a different content: Dungy will investigate whether Europe's strict border control excludes migrants from other parts of the world.[3]
