Madeline "Me4502" Miller is an Australian computer programmer, who has worked on many notable projects.

Personal life[edit]

Miller was born in Brisbane, Australia on 16 October 1997. They say that they learned programming at age 7 by writing simple web browsers in Visual Basic.

They are socially conscious, with references to veganism[1] and mental health charity[2].

Career[edit]

At the age of 10, during school, they worked on the popular game The Powder Toy[3]. In the same community, they made two popular mods to the game known as Me4502's Mod[4], and PowderSim[5].

From here, they moved onto Minecraft modding. They first got involved with Minecraft in late 2010, joining the CraftBook project on 24 April 2012. CraftBook is a part of the organisation EngineHub, which they are one of the founders of[6][7]. From this point they were a part of many major Minecraft development groups, such as the VoxelBox Plugineering Team[8], and the Essentials team[9][7]. One of the largest projects they were a part of in this time was Spigot, with EcoCityCraft[10][11]. They were also involved in the creation of many private Anti-cheat software systems for large Minecraft multiplayer servers[12][7].

In September 2014, following the fall of the Bukkit project, they helped start a replacement platform called SpongePowered. They represented the team at both MINECON 2015 and MINECON 2016. Since then, they have done Minecraft-related work for multiple major YouTubers, as well as high-profile musicians[7][13].

In late 2017, they started taking over development of the other large EngineHub projects, WorldEdit and WorldGuard.[14]. During 2018 they fully absorbed all development on EngineHub projects, and dedicated a large amount of time to rewriting WorldEdit, WorldGuard, and CraftBook [15]. These projects have millions of active users, with billions of downloads[7][16].

In their local city of Brisbane, they are well known for their efforts in the organisation Code Network[17][18]. They were the president of this organisation in 2018, and held the role of Events Coordinator in 2017[16]. They did not re-run for president in 2019, and left the leadership team of the organisation.

From July 2017 to November 2018, they worked for a local industrial mathematics company called Polymathian[16][19].

After leaving that position, they started at a local software company known as Clipchamp, which develops an in-browser video editing solution[16].

They are also a frequent contributor to the large software project, GatsbyJS, having contributed significant performance improvements that have greatly impacted many sites[20].
