Madkid(Japanese: マッドキッド; Hepburn: Maddokiddo) stylized as MADKID; formerly known as J-BOYS-5, is a Japanese vocal and dance boy band, formed in 2014,^[2] that consists of two rappers and three vocals.^[3]

History

On January 31, 2018, Nippon Columbia signed the quintet.^[4] At the end of 2018, the debut single was released on the major sub-label Never Going Back and was listed in the Oricon single chart, where it entered at number 21 and lasted for two weeks.^[5]^[6]

The single "Rise" was published on February 6, 2019, and was used as the opening song for the anime series The Rising of the Shield Hero, based on the light novel of the same title.^[7]^[8] The song rose to number 11 on the Japanese single charts.^[6]

On March 8, 2019, the group announced their first full-fledged album, Circus, for April 24 of the same year.^[9] They appeared in the United States for the first time as part of the Crunchyroll Expo on August 30, 2019.^[10]

EMTG Co., Ltd., a company which manages fan sites for music artists, started an official mobile fan club for Madkid band. It was launched on January 6, 2020.^[11]

When the music video of Forever Young was released, it was based on the image of the mood of the 1980s and it is full of comical scenes.^[12]

Yuki said in an interview that when he usually makes music, LIN, he himself, and YOU-TA plays a central role, but this time all the members made a song called "GIANT KILLING" together and it usually takes about 2 takes to complete the package, but this time he spent a lot of time. You-ta said that the meaning of the song's title in Japanese is Gekokujo(下戸駆除) which means upset (in Japanese).^[13]

On October 14, 2020, Madkid held a livestreaming event on YouTube and Line Live. During the event, it was announced that the office to which they had belonged would become independent and that the band would continue their activities in the future by belonging to the new office called "Future Notes".^[14]

It was announced that Madkid will perform the opening song, "Bring Back", for The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2. They will also do an English version of the song.^[15]^[16] It was announced that Madkid will be performing at Anisama 2022.^[17]
