Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital specializes in complex medical, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, pulmonary conditions, stroke, other neurological conditions and pediatric rehabilitation. Ithas two hospital locations in Lincoln, Nebraska and Omaha, Nebraska and several outpatient therapy clinics, as well as a medical fitness facility. Both the Lincoln and Omaha main campuses house Madonna's Institute for Rehabilitation Science and Engineering which has four centers (Movement and Neuroscience, Communications, Rehabilitation Engineering, and Clinical Informatics).

Madonna’s team of highly specialized physiatrists, hospitalists, therapists, rehabilitation nurses, clinicians and researchers work with the most advanced technology and equipment to help each patient achieve the highest level of independence. Clinicians leverage several types of specialized technology, including the Armeo Spring, Lokomat, Bioness, Eksoskeleton and many others. Madonna's Institute for Rehabilitation Science pioneered the Intelligently Controlled Assistive Rehabilitation Elliptical (ICARE), which integrates a motor that can assist users to train in either the forward or reverse directions at variable speeds.

In 1958, the Benedictine Sisters of Yankton, South Dakota founded Madonna in Lincoln, Nebraska. They choose the name “Madonna” in honor of the Blessed Mother and provide services according to the Benedictine values the hospital continues to follow today. Known as the Madonna Home, the facility begins to earn its reputation for excellence. The facility began as a geriatric facility and later as a physical medicine and rehabilitation center. In 1966, Madonna received the nation's first Medicare certification and began to offer rehabilitation services.

The hospital was first accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities in 1982 and has received three-year accreditation continuously since then. The most recent was given with "no recommendations" for improvement in all six certified programs, which is virtually unheard of in the industry.[1]

Madonna opened another hospital was opened in Omaha, NE in 2016, expanding care to Nebraska's largest city.
