"Magda Lilia Chelly" is a Polish Tunisian computer security specialist, Chief Information Security Officer, security consultant, entrepreneur, researcher, public speaker, and cybersecurity entertainer. [1]

Magda is a strong advocate for women in cybersecurity. She founded, in 2016, a non-profit group called Women on Cyber, previously known as WoSEC Singapore. [2] This group supports diversity and inclusion initiatives in the cybersecurity industry. [3]

She is a member of the Advisory Board for the Executive Summit at Black Hat Asia. She is the co-founder of Responsible Cyber Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based startup with NUS Enterprise, the entrepreneurial arm of the National University of Singapore, and Singtel Innov8, the venture capital arm of the Singtel Group, as its shareholders. The company was valued at 7 Million SGD in May 2020.

Dr. Magda is affiliated with Telecom SudParis, where she earned a Ph.D. in Telecommunication Engineering in 2011. [4] She is fluent in 5 languages. She has publicly spoken in English, French, and Arabic.

Magda's research interests include "'Cyber Security'", the future of localization and positioning, education, and other related topics. Her research and writing on cybersecurity have been featured in publications such as IEEE, RSA Conference, CYBERSEC, the World Congress on Internet Security (WorldCIS-2016), CYBER RISK LEADERS Magazine, and others.

She speaks about cybersecurity in general, focusing on "'cyber risk'" management, "'hacking'", and diversity and inclusion in the field.


Early Life

Magda Lilia Chelly was born in Poland in 1983.[5] She moved to Tunisia with her parents at a young age. [6] She began her engineering studies at Sup'Com or SUP'COM or Higher School of Communication of Tunis or Engineering School of Communication of Tunis in Tunisia. She obtained her Master's degree in the same field in 2009. [7]

Dr. Chelly's doctoral thesis, "Propagation of a position in connected networks," was supervised by Professor Nel Samama and completed on July 7, 2011, in Evry, France. [8] Her thesis was conducted in partnership with Pierre and Marie Curie University. Magda began her professional career as an Assistant Professor at Telecom SudParis, supporting her professor in the "Positioning in constrained environments" course. [9] Magda's research included GNSS and WLAN signal processing for indoor positioning, with Anca Fluerasu, Alexandre Vervisch-Picois, and Nel Samama. [10] In 2009, Dr. Chelly was a reviewer for the Annales des Telecommunications (2010) 65:129–131 DOI 10.1007/s12243-009-0157-3. [11]

Dr. Chelly moved to Qatar to work for a major telecommunications operator, residing there for two years. She then moved to Singapore in 2015.

Career

Dr. Chelly currently works in cybersecurity in Singapore. She founded the startup Responsible Cyber Pte. Ltd. in 2016. [12] She remains involved with her non-profit group, supporting diversity and inclusion. [13] She also trains for the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (formerly ISCA), teaching 'cybersecurity'. [14]

Consulting

Since 2015, Dr. Chelly has been a paid cybersecurity consultant, public speaker, and researcher. She provides security consulting to Fortune 500 companies globally. [15]

Magda's research focuses on the future of cybersecurity, education, localization, positioning, and related areas. Her research and writing have appeared in publications including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the RSA Conference, and the Australian Information Security Association (AISA), among others.
