Mahmud Barmada (Arabic: محمود برمدا; 1916 - September 6, 1999) was an American geneticist, professor, and academic administrator.[1][2]
Earlier life
Mahmoud was born in 1916 to a notable Syrian family and the landlords of Harem. The son of Mustafa Bey Barmada, former Governor General of the State of Aleppo, and his brother was Salah Barmada, former mayor of Aleppo. He grew up in Aleppo, then moved to Damascus.
Education and career
He joined La Sorbonne University in Paris to study medicine, but in the last year he moved to Damascus to complete his medicine degree due to the Second World War. Mahmoud graduated from Damascus University in 1942, and completed his medical specialty in Obstetrics and gynecology in 1947.[3]
Dr. Barmada was a Professor in the medical school at Damascus University from 1947 to 1984 and headed the gynecology department at the medical school in Damascus University- Faculty of Medicine for two decades.
Dr. Barmada retired in 1984 and emigrated to the USA to join his son Dr. Bicher Barmada and his grandsons.[2]

Dr. Barmada has many publications and books related to gynecology.[3] such as *The Art of Obstetrics* [4][5][6][7]
Family
Dr. Mahmud has one son, Dr. Bicher Barmada, and has three grandsons including Mahmud Michael Barmada.
