Mahmud al-Rashid (born 1964) is a Bangladeshi-born British human rights barrister.

Early life[edit]

Al-Rashid was born in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). After he and his family immigrated to England, his father opened a restaurant. Al-Rashid has five sisters.[1]

Career[edit]

Al-Rashid is a human rights[1] barrister in London specialising in the areas of civil liberties and human rights. He has been involved in international and domestic terrorism and national security trials.

He was advisor to the Master of Temple Church, which organises a series of discussions on Islam and English Law. He is co-founder, former Chairman,[2] committee member[3] and spokesman of the Association of Muslim Lawyers (AML).[4] He is deputy secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain.[5][6]

Personal life[edit]

In 1992, Al-Rashid married Sarah Joseph after they were introduced by mutual friends.[5] He lives in London with his wife and their three children.
