Majlis Belia Malaysia (MBM) or the Malaysian Youth Council is the parent body that coordinates youth and student organizations in Malaysia. It was established on 23 July 1948 at Victoria Institution (VI), Kuala Lumpur under the name of Majlis Belia Malaya.[1][2]

History[edit]

On 23 July 1948, a meeting of 75 representatives of the organization at the Victoria Institution paved the way for the establishment of the "Malayan Youth Council". Following the establishment of this Temporary Youth Special Committee, Abdul Razak Hussein (Tun) and Tengku Jaafar represented Malaya at the World Assembly of Youth (WAY) Conference in Brunei. From then on, WAY has recognized MBM (temporarily) as the National Committee for him in Malaya.

The youth delegates who convened in July 1948 discussed and sought to establish the State and Settlement Youth Council. The Penang State Youth Council and Wellesly Province were established on 17 November 1948 and was the first State Youth Council in Malaya.

The Malayan Youth Council was officially recognized on 9 September 1950 in Penang after its constitution was adopted. The first General Meeting was held in the presence of affiliated bodies namely the State Youth Council. In 1951, the Government recognized the Malayan Youth Council as the National Youth Council for youth organizations in the country.
