Makenna Malia Dominguez Caluya (born June 19, 2003) is a professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder Greek A Division club AEK. Born in the United States, she plays for the El Salvador national team. She played college soccer for the North Carolina Tar Heels and the LSU Tigers, winning the 2024 national championship with the Tar Heels.
Early life
Dominguez grew up in Sierra Madre, California, the daughter of Leanne and Ed Dominguez, and has an older brother.[1] She attended Flintridge Preparatory School, where she captained the soccer team for two years and led them to a CIF Southern Section title, being named all-league four times and All-American by TopDrawerSoccer.[1] She played DA club soccer for LA Surf and Strikers FC.[1] She committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels as a sophomore.[2]
College career
Dominguez played in 8 games for the North Carolina Tar Heels as a freshman in 2021.[1] In 2022, she sat out the entire season as the Tar Heels reached the national title game, then made 2 appearance in her junior year in 2023.[1] In 2024, she finished her senior year with 22 appearances, starting 11, and 2 assists,[3] as the Tar Heels won their 23rd national title and first since 2012.[4] She then transferred to the LSU Tigers for 2025, playing in 22 games, starting 14, and recording 3 assists.[5] She helped the Tigers reach the SEC tournament final, losing on penalties, and the NCAA tournament third round.[5] During her college years, she also played in the USL W League for Wake FC, the Colorado Storm, and the Pittsburgh Riveters, reaching the league final with the Storm in 2024.[6]
Club career
In June 2026, Dominguez signed her first professional contract with Greek club AEK Athens,[7] becoming the fifth active Salvadoran international playing in Europe.[8]
International career
Dominguez received her first call-up to the El Salvador national team in the lead-up to the 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup.[9] She made her international debut on February 17, 2024, starting in a 3–1 win against Guatemala in the Gold Cup qualification play-off.[10] In October 2025, she was again called up to El Salvador and commented that she hoped the national team would have more regular camps like other countries.[11]
