Makhmud Muradov (born 8 February 1990) is a Tajik-born Uzbek-Czech professional mixed martial artist, combat sambist and kickboxer fighting out of Prague, Czechia and Bukhara, Uzbekistan.[8][9][10][11] He is currently signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight division.

A professional MMA competitor since 2012, Muradov is the first Uzbek UFC fighter and the world's first mixed martial artist signed by the Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s The Money Team.[12][13][4]

As of September 29, 2019, he is #1 in the Tapology's Eastern European middleweight rankings.[14]

Background[edit]

Muradov was born on 8 February 1990 in Soviet Tajikistan, into a ethnic Uzbek family, to a Tajik father and a native Uzbek mother. In 1993, he moved with his family to his mother's native Uzbekistan due to the ongoing Tajik civil war, and in 2019, he was finally granted Uzbek citizenship.[3][1]

He trained boxing in his youth before transitioning to kickboxing and became Junior Uzbek Kickboxing Champion under the K1 rules.[15][16]

Muradov forced to start working at a young age due his father's disability caused by car accident. He also began his combat sambo career at the age of eighteen, that culminated in a well-paid job as a security guard in Russian Siberia. During this work in Siberia he was several times seriously stabbed and shot. Muradov then moved to Czech Republic in search of a better job to earn more money for his family and himself. He started training Muay Thai and MMA in Prague under the tutelage of Petr Kníže, who allow Muradov to train and sleep in his gym for free. Muradov then started his professional MMA career in 2012.[15][3][16]

Mixed martial arts career[edit]

Early career[edit]

In September 2015 Muradov fought at WAKO K1 European Cup 2015 tournament and lost in the first match against Polish champion Bartosz Dołbień by unanimous decision.[17][18]

In February 2018 Muradov became world's first mixed martial artist signed by the Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s The Money Team. Before that, they became friends, after they meet each other at the Prague's Lávka Club in March 2017.[3][12][13][4]

Before entering the UFC, Muradov held a 22–6 MMA record and won multiple middleweight championships (XFN, WASO, WKN, Caveam).[16][19][20][21]

Ultimate Fighting Championship[edit]

Muradov made his promotional debut against Alessio Di Chirico on September 28, 2019 at UFC on ESPN+ 18 as a replacement for injured Peter Sobotta. He took the fight on 12 days notice.[22] He won the fight by unanimous decision.

Personal life[edit]

Muradov speaks several languages, including Uzbek, Czech, Russian, English and Polish.[23]

Muradov is dating Czech Romani singer Monika Bagárová since 2018.[24]
