Mancini, the Motorcycle Wizard is a 2016 documentary film by director Jeffrey Zani. It tells the story of Guido Mancini, a former motorcycle racer and mechanic from Pesaro, Italy, who worked behind the debuts of Italian riders Loris Capirossi, Valentino Rossi, Andrea Dovizioso, Franco Morbidelli and Romano Fenati.[1].

Overview[edit]

The film spotlights the importance of supporting young riders during their first years of racing, focusing on the man that helped the most successful Italian riders of recent times. It features meetings between Mancini and the riders [2], footage from the years they spent together, and sequences that were shot during Mancini's everyday life. It was released in New York during the Motorcycle Film Festival in September 2016 [3].

In total, the five riders have won 14 world titles after working with Mancini: 3 for Capirossi in the 125 and 250 classes[4], 9 for Rossi in the 125, 250, 500 and MotoGP classes [5], 1 for Dovizioso in the 125 class [6], 1 for Morbidelli in the Moto2 class [7]. Currently Capirossi is still the youngest man to have ever won a world title: he did it in 1990, when he was 17 [8]

Never-seen-before video footage of Dovizioso racing in the 2001 European Championship and amateur video footage of Morbidelli testing a 125 Grand Prix bike for the first time, at the age of 11, are included in the film.

The film was shot in the cities of Pesaro, Tavullia, Ascoli Piceno, Forlì and Montecarlo in 2014 and 2015.
