Manolo Santar (Madrid, Spain, March 11, 1965) is a screenwriter, international consultant, teacher, and advertising creative.
Career
Spain
Linked to the early years of private television in Spain, the career of Manolo Santar began writing comedies like Colegio Mayor [1] (with Jorge Sanz [2], Antonio Resines [3] and Enrique San Francisco [4]) and Los Ladrones van a La Oficina [5] [6] (with Fernando Fernán Gómez [7], José Luis López Vázquez [8], Agustín González [9] and Manuel Alexandre [10]), or giving small notes in the first steps of what would later become the great success of Médico de Familia [11]. At the beginning of the new century he wrote for Globomedia [12] [13] series like Compañeros [14] [15](produced by Manuel Ríos San Martín [16] [17]) which became a huge event with thousands of fans.[1] or the big action series Policías en el corazón de la calle [18] (produced by Manuel Valdivia and Nacho Cabana [19]).
Mexico
The year 1995 was a change in his career, moving his residence to Mexico where he was Professor at the Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana [20] in Mexico City. There he designed several advertising campaigns (DHL, Arteli) and wrote late nights like La hora Lunática with Humberto Luna or Permítame tantito de Israel Jaitovich, soap operas like Sueños y caramelos [21] and comedies of success for Televisa, among which Los Perplejos [22] [23] stand out (last series created by the TV icon Mauricio Kleiff[2]), La Jaula [24] [25](produced by Guillermo del Bosque, who surpassed all the audience records in Mexico[3] and its broadcast by the United States Univision Network[4]) , series for personalities such as María Elena Velasco (La India María) [26], Rafael Inclán [27], César Bono [28], Omar Chaparro [29], Carlos Eduardo Rico [30], Carlos Bonavides [31] or Carmen Salinas [32].
During his time at Televisión Azteca, he supervised the creation of several contests and late nights as well as being a translator / adapter of famous American series such as Who's the boss? (Called in Mexico Una familia con Ángel[5], considered the first sit-com in Mexico with American format[6][circular reference] ) , but his greatest success came with Juan Carlos Méndez and Amaranta Ruiz [33], being part during its twelve seasons of the creative team of the longest-lived comedy series on Latin American television: Puro Loco [34] (and its spin-offs, A la mexicana [35] and De todo un poco), with twelve years on TV networks and more than ten years of theatrical performances through the entire American continent[7].
USA
In 2006, Manolo Santar moved to Miami, Florida, where he was represented by the talent agency William Morris Endeavor (WME) and began working as an International Consultant / Creative Director for Sony Pictures Entertainment for six years. There he supervises and directs several creative teams in Mexico, Colombia and Argentina, who are in charge of adapting and developing for the Latin American market series and films as famous as Aquí no hay quien viva, El Mariachi or Los Simuladores, which was nominated as best series of 2010 at the International Emmy Awards in New York[8]
In the United States he writes series for Telemundo, such as Historias de la Virgen Morena [36] , comedies like Seguro y Urgente [37] (with Miguel Varoni), late night shows like Más vale tarde [38] (the Spanish-language's first Late Night in USA[9][10]) or the show hosted by the multifaceted Charytín, entertainment news programs like Suelta la Sopa [39] or reality shows for Univision as La Gran Sorpresa [40].
While traveling frequently to Miami and Mexico, he currently resides in the city of Los Angeles, California.
