Mansi Shriniwas Surve (Indian, born April 16, 1996) is a former national level rhythmic gymnast, and currently an Indian Rhythmic Gymnastics coach who is head at the Phoenix Gymnastics Academy which is one amongst the Top Gymnastics Academies from India. Her elder sister is Pooja Surve. In 2015 Mansi received a bronze medal at the prestigious national games Kerala 2015 organised by the Indian Olympic Association. She has won many other medals at the district, state and national level in SGFI, GFI, and University Games in Rhythmic Gymnastics.
Mansi is one of the top coaches from India and her pupils include, India's record holding gymnast Sanyukta Kale who made a record of 15.10 and got qualified for the finals at the 17th Junior Asian Championships 2019 Pattaya at 7th position in the history of Indian Rhythmic Gymnastics. Mansi was the National Team Coach at this tournament.[1]
She has also trained many International Players like Asmi Badade who was 's All Around Champion (2020) and won 4 gold medals and 1 silver and also participated at the Junior Asian Championships held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2018[2][3], Shreya Bhangale who was Khelo India Champion in 2020 who won 1 gold, 2 silver medals and 1 bronze and also participated in Indian Contingent Junior Asian Championships[4], Kimaya Kadam who won Silver Medal in Khelo India in 2019[5] and Priyanka Acharya who won a medal in 2018 Khelo India Competition.[6][7]
Mansi Surve was the sole gold winner in the senior group from Thane at Thane National competition.[8]
Personal Life
Mansi was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra India. As a student she was fond of art. Along with being an artist she was also involved in the field of dance. She started learning Kathak at the age of 9. Mansi got her inner calling to pursue Rhythmic Gymnastics as a Sport when she saw her elder sister Pooja Surve performing with a hoop for the first time. That was the moment when Mansi realised she had some cosmic connection with this sport. Being a classical dancer she had a natural sense of rhythm and grace which helped her improve faster in Rhythmic Gymnastics.
2010
Mansi was out of the sport from 2010 - 2011 for two years. Pooja retired as a player and started her own academy at Thane in 2011 which opened the gate of possibilities and opportunities for Mansi.
2011
After a gap of two years Mansi returned to the sport and competed at the SGFI district level in 2011 and got through for the state championships. She received 1 gold and 3 bronze medals at the SGFI states held at Pune and got selected for 57th SGFI Nationals 2011 - 2012 held at Kolkata, West Bengal where she received a Gold medal in team championship's event in 2012.
2012
She secured a Gold medal at the 22nd Rhythmic Gymnastics National Championships 2012 - 2013 held at Sirhind, Punjab.
She bagged 5 bronze medals at the 23rd SGFI state championship held at Nanded year 2012 -2013.
2013
At 24th Rhythmic Gymnastics states championship she got 1 silver and 4 bronze medals held at Andheri in the year 2013 -2014.
At the 23rd Rhythmic Gymnastics National Championships 2013 -2014 held in Thane, Mansi received a bronze medal.[9]
She secured 2 Silver medals at the All India Interuniversity National Championships held at Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.[10]
2015
Mansi always dreamt of competing at the National Games which are considered as one of the most prestigious competitions of India. She received a Bronze Medal at the 35th National Games Kerala organised by the Indian Olympic Association held in 2015. She took retirement from the sport as a player after that achievement.
2016
Later she got into the field of coaching and started assisting Pooja at the phoenix gymnastics academy. A noticeable development in the performance of P.G.A. gymnasts, who got trained under Mansi helped her get promoted as the Head Coach at the academy in 2017 under the Directorship of Pooja Surve. She was the coach of P.G.A. team India at the Vitrigo International Cup 2016 in Malaysia where her Gymnast Sanyukta Kale won 2 silvers and 1 gold.[11] She also became head coach at Phoenix Gymnastics Academy by Pooja Surve.[12]
2017
In 2017, Mansi appeared for the International Judges Course organised by The Federation International Gymnastics where she got certified as an international judge in Rhythmic Gymnastics Individual and Rhythmic Gymnastics Group both with Category 4.[13][14]
2018
She later represented India at the 2nd Vitrigo International Cup 2018 held at Malaysia as a judge.
She was appointed as FIG International judge by the Indian Olympic Association at the Asian Games selection trials held at Indira Gandhi Stadium Delhi in 2018.
2019
She represented India at Captain's cup 2019 held at Manila Philippines as a Judge.
She also represented India as Junior National team coach at the 17th Junior Asian Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships at Pattaya, Thailand in 2019.[15]
2020
Mansi was also appointed as one of the technical officials at the Khelo India Games in 2020 held at Assam.
2021
Mansi Surve was appointed as Maharashtra Team coach for 25th Rhythmic Gymnastics National Competition held at Jammu & Kashmir in November, 2021. Maharashtra team won 1st at State ranking and they bagged 8 Gold Medals, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze medals. She also received a title as Best Coach.[16]
