Manu Melwin Joy

Manu Melwin Joy (Born May 19, 1984) is an academician [1], gamification consultant [2], author and a trainer. Having done many socially relevant gamification projects for organizations like Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) [3] [4] , Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) [5] [6] [7] [8] , The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) [9] [10], Vocational Higher Secondary Education (VHSE) wing of Department of General Education, State of Kerala [11] [12], he is well known in business, social, academic and professional circles in the state of Kerala.

Early Life, Education and Academic Career

Born to Dr. Joy Mathew (Retd Professor, Kerala Agricultural University) and Smt. Mercy Thomas (Retd Joint Director, Kerala Agricultural Department) in Thrissur district, Kerala, Manu has one sister, Vineetha Joy who is working as Scientist in National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), Bangalore. He received his Bachelor's Degree in B.Tech (Civil Engineering) from Government Engineering College, Thrissur in the year 2006 and Master Degree in Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Amrita School of Business, Coimbatore. He obtained his Ph.D in Human Resource from Cochin University of Science and Technology in 2017. He had also qualified National Eligibility Test (NET) for Lectureship conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in the year 2012. In the period 2010-12, he served ESAF Microfinance Pvt Limited as Manager (Corporate Training). Later, he worked as assistant professor with Ilahia School of Management Studies, Muvatupuzha (2014-2016) and SCMS School of Technology and Management, Cochin (SSTM) (2017). Manu Melwin Joy is currently working as Assistant Professor at School of Management Studies, CUSAT. Dr. Manu won the Global Eminence Award 2021 under the exclusive individual category of “Best Academician of the Year Award” instituted by Bestow Edutrex International in the year 2021.[13]

Notable Contributions

He has handled more than 100 international and national sessions on gamification for many corporates [14] and educational institutions. He was the coordinator and the lead resource person for many Management Development Programmes organized by School of Management Studies, CUSAT. Also, he had taken socially impactful gamification projects Like Project I CAN for developing a app for motivating cancer patients [15], gamifying the five year LLB curriculum of National University for Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) [16] [17]Project Merry Metro engaging 6000 passengers in Kochi Metro [18] [19], Project Hrudayapoorvam CIAL engaging 1000 passengers in Cochin Airport, Project Guru for training 1000 VHSE teachers, Project Acharya for training 1000 Principals for APKOS (Association for Principals of Kerala Oriented Schools), Project Varna Shalabhangal for gamifying Government Children’s Home, kakkanad [20], Project Oppam for Gamifying HIV AIDS Awareness [21], Project Ayushman Bhava for creating Basic Life Support Awareness [22], Project Aswamedham with the target of training more than 25,000 school teachers [23] [24] [25] and much more.

Cancer Awareness

Dr. Manu is also noted for his contributions in the field of Cancer awareness through his lectures, TV shows and YouTube videos sharing his personal experience of overcoming cancer. He was featured in The Times of India [26] and The New Indian Express [27] sharing his journey of overcoming the odds and surviving the dreadful disease. In January 2022, he was invited to attend Oru Kodi program aired by Flowers TV and hosted by Sreekandan Nair for sharing his personal story of winning over cancer [28]. There are many interviews and videos in YouTube [29] which are motivational to people who are having a tough time fighting cancer.
