Biography[edit]

Born in Madrid on 8 December 1972,[1][2] he is son of Manuel de la Rocha Rubí, PSOE member and former mayor of Leganés.[3] He earned a licentiate degree in Business Sciences from the Autonomous University of Madrid in 1995,[4] taking postgraduate studies in Latin American studies from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and economic policy from Columbia University.[4]

He has been employed by the European Commission (1997–1999) and the World Bank (2000–2007) as well as other public agencies.[5]

Initially an endorser of the Eduardo Madina's bid to PSOE leadership at the 2014 primary election,[6] de la Rocha was nonetheless appointed as Secretary of Economy in the party's federal executive board at the Extraordinary Congress that followed the primary election won by Pedro Sánchez in July 2014. He remained in that role until 2016.[5]

After Pedro Sánchez became prime minister in June 2018, de la Rocha was announced as new chief of the Economic department at the Prime Minister's Cabinet Office.[7] Following the second investiture of Sánchez as prime minister in January 2020, de la Rocha was confirmed at the helm of the economic department in the Cabinet Office.[5]
