Maria Vladimirovna Nikolaeva (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist.; born 8 July 1971) is a Russian writer and teacher of spiritual philosophy. She has written 37 books in Russian, which have been translated into English, Chinese, Indonesian, Estonian, Lithuanian, and Ukrainian. Nikolaeva is a member of the International Writers Union, the Translators Union of Russia, a fellow of the Association for the Study of Esoterics and Mysticism, and an honorary member of St. Petersburg Yoga School.

Biography

Nikolaeva was born in Saint Petersburg. She studied at St. Petersburg State University, the High School of Religion and Philosophy (Institute), and the Russian Christian Humanitarian Academy, completing three degrees in philosophy. She began publishing philosophical articles in various collections in 1996. She worked as an editor at three state institutions from 1999 to 2004. Her first five spiritual books were printed as a series by Piter in 2004. She subsequently relocated to India to continue her research, publishing reports in several Russian yoga magazines and several new books. The first edition of her book The Basic Hatha-Yoga Schools was printed by the St. Petersburg Oriental Studies publishing house in 2007, and reprinted by Tradition in Moscow, 2014. It was presented by Russian Journal and the radio channel Moscow Echo. The first English edition of her book Hatha Yoga Practice: Disciple against Wall (2007) was reviewed by Swami Dharmananda and David Frawley. Her books have been translated into Lithuanian,[1] Estonian,[2] and Ukrainian since 2008.

She traveled widely in Asia from 2007 to 2009, spending time in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, China, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Indonesia. After settling down in Bali in 2009, she concentrated on holistic spiritual teaching until 2013, according to her later book Self-Being Strategy. In this period she published articles in monthly local magazines Ubud Community and Sanur Community, and her books were translated into Indonesian and Chinese. From the beginning of 2014 she returned to her hometown of St. Petersburg to teach Eastern knowledge for Western audiences. A collection of her works in five volumes was published by Tradition Publishing Group in Moscow,[3] and she became a member of the International Writers Union,[4] and the Translators Union of Russia.

She continues to teach in over 30 spiritual and training centers, and is an honorary member of St. Petersburg Yoga School.[5]
