Maria Sarafoglou (Greek: Μαρία Σαράφογλου; born July 17, 1977[citation needed]) is a Greek journalist and television presenter.

Early years

Born in Athens, originally from Chios, she is the daughter of Dimitris Sarafoglou, a member of the KKE and later of PASOK, who served as mayor of Keratsini and general secretary of the Ministry of Environment. She went to the Greek-French School of Piraeus "Jean D'Arc",[1] where after graduation she continued her studies at the Law School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Career

She started her professional career in the field of journalism[2] from ERT in 2000 where she remained until 2012. Initially she started doing freelance reporting and then went to the international news department. Then she undertook the presentation of shows " First line ", " It happens now ", " Weekend on NET " and finally " Saturday - Sunday live ". In 2006, with the creation of ERT Digital, she was invited to present news bulletins in Greek and English, followed by the daily news program " Agenda ".

In the summer of 2012 she left ERT and went to Mega Channel[3] where from August 13, 2012, she started presenting the morning news of the channel together with Dimitris Takis. In September 2014, she undertook the presentation of the main news bulletin of the station after the departure of Olga Tremi, who returned to the presentation of the main news bulletin in January 2015 with Sarafoglou undertaking to present the main bulletin of the TV station on Saturdays.

In April 2016, she was sentenced by ESIEA for reprimanding her discriminatory attitude in the period before the 2015 referendum. In October of the same year she left Mega and went to the ANT1 television station , where she initially undertook the presentation of the station's main news bulletin for a period of 2 weeks.

From 30 January of 2017 and so far she assumes presentation of the lunch news bulletin of ANT1 usually on Fridays and all daily afternoon release while doing a series of interviews with personalities from Greece and abroad such as the French president Emmanuel Macron and the former president of the Eurogroup, Jeroen Dijsselbloem.

Sarafoglou has collaborated with the American television network CNN in the program "World View (World Report)", while she participated in educational programs of the same network in Atlanta (USA), of the Associated Press Television News (APTN) in London for the international television production news, and the BBC World Service. She also took part in a communication program of the Greek Press Office of the United Nations in New York. In addition to collaborating with television stations, she has also collaborated with print media such as the Kathimerini newspapers (and the Kappa Magazine) and Free Press.

Personal life

She was married to journalist Antonis Alafogiorgos from 2010 to 2018 and had a son.[citation needed] On July 7, 2017, the couple filed for divorce, which was officially issued in 2018.[citation needed]

She speaks English, Spanish, French and Chinese.[citation needed]
