Maria Simões de Melo (1541 – ?) was a Portuguese noble lady.

Biography

Born in 1541 in the Azores,[1] she was a descendant of the discoverer of the islands Diego de Melo Coutinho.[2] Her father was Domingo de Melo Coutinho. Maria de Melo was married to Matias Nunes Cabral, and they had two daughters, Margarita and Inês. Maria, from the paternal and maternal line, is a descendant of Kings Ordoño I of Asturias, Ferdinand I of León and Castile and John I of Portugal.[3]
