Maria Strong (born 11 March 1971) is an Australian Paralympic athlete. She has been selected for 2020 Summer Paralympics.[1][2]

Personal[edit]

Strong was born on 11 March 1971.[3] She has cerebral palsy and was also been diagnosed with autism, epilepsy, and a brain injury that she acquired after experiencing status epilepticus in her twenties.[4] In 2021, she lives in Melbourne and works as swimming instructor.[4]

Athletics[edit]

She has been an athletics official since 2014 and then decided to take up the shot put at the age of 46.[4] She is classifed as F33 and coached by Australian Paralympian John Eden.[4]

Her first international competition was the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai, where she placed fifth in the Women's Shot Put F33.[3]

Recognition[edit]

Strong was awarded the Disability Sport and Recreation's Masters Sports Person of the Year at the 2018 Victorian Disability Sport and Recreation Awards.[4]
