Professor Mariam Seedat Khan (born 16 December 1970) is Clincical Sociologist based in Durban, South Africa. Professor Seedat Khan has studied at York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and at the University of Natal (Durban), which is now renamed the University of KwaZulu-Natal, in Durban, South Africa.[1]

Seedat Khan has worked at the former University of Durban-Westville (UDW), University of Port Elizabeth Nelson Mandela University, the University of the Witwatersrand WITS, University of Johannesburg UJ and at the University of KwaZulu-Natal UKZN. Her field of expertise is in the area of intrinsic and extrinsic learning challenges.[2]

Professor Seedat Khan is the creator and founding member of SMART, Simply Managing Academic Related Tasks (www.simplysmart.co.za).[3]

She is a visiting Professor at Taylor's University, Subang Jaya, Selangor, in Malaysia. Professor Seedat Khan holds a Board position on the Association for Applied and Clinical Sociology and International Sociological Association RC46, Clincical Sociology.[4] She is also widely published in journal articles and in academic books.[5] [6] [7]

In 2018, she was nominated and won the Women of Wonder Award.[8]

Mariam was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2019. She successfully underwent immediate medical treatment and is currently in remission.[9] Her next book is entitled "Courage" which she is co-authoring with journalist and gemologist Shabnum Moosa. The book will share the stories of cancer warriors, in their own words.[10]

In 2021, Professor Mariam Seedat-Khan was nominated for the My Pink Stilettos Amazing Women International Award that recognises women around the world who are doing extraordinary things to uplift communities and improve society.[11][12]

Mariam married South African radio presenter Alan Khan in March 1997 and they have two sons, Nasser and Ameer, who are both studying at university.[13] [14]
