Marius Vold (born 9 July 1972),[1] is a Norwegian musician. In 1987, Marius co-founded, along with Steinar Sverd Johnsen, the band Mortem, one of the very first Norwegian death/black metal bands in history. Later, Marius and Sverd started the band Arcturus that became the successor to Mortem. Marius also co-founded the band Stigma Diabolicum (with Snorre Ruch and Bård Faust) which later became the band Thorns.

Career

Around 1986, Marius and Steinar started playing together at Steinar’s house. They continued playing, and eventually some songs came out of the collaboration. At that time Steinar played guitar and Marius played bass and did the vocals. For the drums they tried out several drummers (including Fenris from Darkthrone), until they met Hellhammer (from Mayhem) who joined the band.

Mortem’s first release, ‘Slow Death’ demo, came out in 1989. Euronymous (Mayhem) was the producer during the studio session and Dead (Mayhem) drew the picture on the demo cover.

After this release the band was put on hold due to other projects Marius was involved in.

Approximately 30 years later, in 2017, Marius and Steinar decided to bring Mortem back to life, along with Hellhammer and Tor Stavenes (1349, Den Saakaldte, Svart Lotus), who joined on bass to record the full album 'Ravnsvart' released by Peaceville Records in 2019.
