Mariya Apollonia is a Danish singer who gained prominence after participating in the seventeenth season of the Danish X Factor. In 2025, she furthered her music career by competing in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with the song "I Belong to Me," aiming to represent Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest[1][2]
Background
Mariya Apollonia Solveig Karlsen was born and raised in Ølsted, Denmark. She began her career as a dancer and later worked as a vocal and dance instructor at institutions including SceneKunst and ElStudio.dk. She is the registered owner of the performing arts company DRA-MAMA, founded in Ølsted in 2019. In 2024, she gained national recognition through her appearance on X Factor Danmark, where she reached the live shows. In addition to her television work, she appeared in episode 2 of Urban Girls on TV 2 Play, and collaborated on original music projects, including co-writing the track “Afterhours” with M1CKY and choreographing for the music video “Daddy Tissues” by Louise Hylland.[3]

X Factor Denmark (2024)
Mariya Apollonia participated in the seventeenth season of X Factor Danmark in 2024. She auditioned with a performance of “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone and advanced through the competition under judge Thomas Blachman’s mentorship. During her time on the show, she became known not only for her vocal ability but also for integrating choreographed dance into her performances. She performed songs including “SUNDHOLM” by SULKA, and “Nu Hvor Du Har Brændt Mig Af” by Thomas Helmig, and “Jeg elsker alt hvad du hader ved mig” by Angående Mig. On 8 March 2024, during the third live show, she was eliminated from the competition after a sing-off performance of “Somewhere Only We Know” by Keane, placing her in seventh position[4]
