Mark Macias
Mark M. Macias is an American journalist, producer, author, media strategist and playwright. Macias was an Executive Producer on NBC from 2000 to 2003 and Senior Producer on CBS from 2003 to 2007. He left CBS in 2009 to start his own global public relations agency – MACIAS PR[1]. Macias was nominated for five Emmy awards in the categories: Documentary programming[2][not in citation given] Features: Business & Consumer, News & Public Affairs, and Religious Programming. He won an Emmy in the News & Public Affairs category[3][not in citation given]
During his time with NBC, Macias and Ike Seaman[4] were the first American TV journalists in the United States to expose the NSA’s ability to eavesdrop on Americans using satellites. The TV segment on the NSA program, Echelon, was broadcast NBC in Miami[5] in November 1998. CBS 60 Minutes[6] broadcast this story in February 2000. The international eavesdropping program was confirmed by Edward Snowden in 2013.
Macias was a Pulliam Journalism Fellow [7] and graduate of the journalism think tank, the Poynter Institute.
Business Career[edit]
Macias is a member of the Forbes Business Council and contributor with Forbes [8], CNBC[9] and The Daily Caller [10].
Macias has been a media and political consultant with CNBC[11], Entrepreneur Magazine [12], KTVK [13], Fox Business News[14]. He’s author of the business book, Beat the Press: Your Guide to Managing the Media [15], which was published in 2008.
In October 2018, Macias wrote and produced an Off-Broadway play, The King, The Final Hours [16]. It takes an artistic look at the final hours of Elvis Presley’s life. The play was performed in New York and was featured on PIX 11 in New York[17], NY 1[18], Broadway Box [19], New York Post[20], Brooklyn Reader[21], Brooklyn Paper[22], The Irish Catholic[23], and Catholic TV[24]. The King, The Final Hours was picked up in 2020 by Serious Theater[25] in Dalles, Oregon.
Macias runs a public relations firm that has run media and branding campaigns for clients in digital health, technology, politicians and nonprofits. Finance Monthly[26] named MACIAS PR the 2015 PR Consultant Firm of the Year[27], 2016 and 2017 Financial PR Firm of the Year.[28]
MACIAS PR created the mobile apps Last Minute Broadway[29], The Publicity App[30], The PR App[31], NYC Explore[32], Brooklyn Bound[33], Blush No More[34], The Medicaid App.[35]
Personal Life[edit]
Macias was married on July 2016 to Lauren DeGregory in Newport, Rhode Island. Their wedding was profiled in the New York Times[36]. The couple lives in Brooklyn with their son[37].
