Marni Hughes is a television journalist. She currently serves as the anchor for NewsNation Live with Marni Hughes on weekdays.
Early life
Marni Hughes graduated from the University of Montana (UM), where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism.
Career
After her graduation, Hughes joined WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio. She next moved to WISE-TV in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where she appeared as a weekday reporter and then as weekend anchor. Afterwards, Hughes anchored at KTSU in Salt Lake City. Later on, she worked as a weeknight co-anchor at KMSP-TV in Minneapolis.[1]
In 2012, Hughes joined the Fox affiliate KCPQ in Seattle, Washington where she anchored the evening news for the next eight years. She also launched an afternoon program Healthy Living, in which she reported on several health care topics, including heart disease and autism. Hughes was awarded a local Emmy Award for a series of stories about American families struggling to raise autistic children.[1]
Meanwhile, in September 2019, Nexstar Media Group completed its acquisition of the parent company Tribune Media for $4.1 billion, which owned the cable station WGN America.[2][3] In January 2020, Nexstar announced plans to overhaul WGN America's primetime lineup with the launch of a three-hour nightly national newscast.[4] In June of that year, it was announced that Nextar had hired Hughes, Joe Donlon, and Rob Nelson for the cable news station NewsNation.[5] Along with Donlon and Nelson, Hughes co-anchored the network's first three-hour primetime news program NewsNation Prime at 7 p.m. ET, which premiered on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.[6][7]
In March 2022, in response to the Russo-Ukrainian war, Leland Vittert joined Hughes to co-anchor NewsNation Special Report.[8] Hughes later left the nightly show to anchor her own daytime program NewsNation Live with Marni Hughes from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET. The program debuted on September 19, 2022.[9]
