From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Matilde Girasole is a pop singer songwriter who has performed internationally and built a large online following. According to music journal Tunedloud, some factors which appeal to her predominantly young fanbase are her strong pop songs and lyrics which are relatable to her contemporaries.[1] Matilde is Italian but is based in Singapore.[2] Her career has included live performances, contest participation, and extensive interaction with her followers on social media.[3]

Career[edit]

Matilde at Singapore's Got Talent 2020

One feature of Matilde’s career is her participation in a variety of international songwriting and singing contests. These include 2019’s ISing World, where she was selected to represent Italy in the junior category, and Singapore's Got Talent 2020 where she came first in the category of singers and 3rd overall, plus another international contest, KWC Singapore, where she was the 2nd runner up.

Matilde has also participated in Tour Music Fest in both 2018 and 2019 where she was one of the four European finalists. This gained coverage from the Italian language music press[4][5][6] by publications such as Nella Notizia, cultural news site Seven News, and film and music side Mondo Spettacolo. In addition, she performed at Video Festival Live 2019 as one of the five European finalists and has gained the highly commended certificate in the UK Songwriting Contest.

As a result of her international competing, she has played large stages in Italy, Singapore, and Japan.

Despite her international career and extensive performances both in East Asia and Europe, she has a significant fanbase in the USA,[7] and Matilde has been covered by English language music publications and blogs such as Broken 8 Records and Electrowow. She has also performed on YouTube with other singers such as Leo Cabid and Andrea Mandelli, such as her video singing the song Shallow from the 2018 film A Star is Born, featuring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.[8] Matilde cites Lady Gaga as a huge influence in her life since a young age.[3]

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic induced lockdown, Matilde posted a homemade music video on her YouTube channel for Cup of Tea, which provided insight into her songwriting and recording process.[9]

In September 2020 she was signed by The Kennel AB a music label, publishing, production and managment company based in Sweden. The Kennel AB has written and produced more than 100 #1 charts hits, with recents major hits from Celine Dion, The Scorpions, BTS, Kygo, Chainsmokers, just to name a few. Matilde Girasole released with The Kennel AB two original songs, Doorbell (more than 1 million streams) and Milk N' Honey and changed her artist name in to Matilde G. In Asia she is exclusively licensed by Universal Music Group in Malaysia and India, Viva Records in Philippines, Amberstone in Vietnam, My Music Records in Indonesia.

Prestigious press and magazines wrote about her in 2021, including Billboard Vietnam who featured Matilde G in 3 different articles and in a video interview where the artist talks about her journey.

Style and influences[edit]

Matilde claims she is influenced by other pop and electropop artists such as Robyn, Halsey, and Sia[3] and her lyrics have been described by the music press as covering topics concerning relationships and the difficulties of love, such as her singles In My Mind and The Distance.[10][2][1] She explained on her ConcertMonkey page that the latter dealt with the topic of a long distance relationship,[11] and it received over 110K streams on Spotify.[2] Both gained international coverage with In My Mind featured on French music publication B Aware[12] and Italian blog site Italia Blogger describing her as 'the future of music' in it's feature on The Distance.[13]

Vocally, Matilde has a large range and sings in a classic pop style, with her latest release, Cup of Tea, being noted for its powerful vocals by Electrowow,[10] whereas In My Mind included a brief semi-spoken section.[14] Cup of Tea also saw her go in a more alternative direction similar to indie pop acts like Chvrches, with a nontraditional structure, layered rhythms, and vocal harmonies,[3] and was described as having a sound which 'breaks barriers'[15] by Global Money World.

Both Matilde herself and Electrowow described Cup of Tea as introducing a new persona which focused on pursuing her musical goals.[3][10] This is in contrast to her previous focus on love and relationships.[3][10] She also marks the difference between it and her previous two releases, which she describes as ballads;[3] in comparison, Cup of Tea is an electropop song with a fast beat, and it used different producers to her other work.[9] Despite her concentration on pop and similar genres, Matilde is also a fan of Queen.[3]

Production-wise, Matilde's music involves heavy use of synths, electronic pads and drumbeats, and double-tracked vocals as well as guitar and piano. She has worked closely with producers such as Roberto Vernetti, Michele Clivati, Steve Luchi and Andrea Casamento,[9][14] and although she has experience in Logic Pro X, she disclosed in an interview with Starry Mag that she believes a team of artists is better when making a record.[16]

Personal life[edit]

Matilde studied music formally from a young age, learning the piano, guitar, and vocals. She wrote her first song at age 13[7] before building the rest of her career. She also followed the Rockschool Grading System up until Grade 8, which she was awarded at Trinity College.[7]

In aYouTube interview, Matilde described her songwriting process.[3] There she cited that as a young teenager, she wrote songs instead of writing a diary as a form of emotional expression.[3] Matilde also explains the different direction she went in with Cup of Tea as a consequence of her continued development as an artist, and that she sees her future as being entirely in music, as she is constantly thinking of melodies and songs wherever she is.[3]

The same interview was also featured on vocal-focused site Planet Singer.[17] Matilde also spoke about how to her, being a performing artist is a holistic career which incorporates fashion, makeup, self-expression, and personal growth.[3] In her video for Cup of Tea,[9] she featured a silver colour scheme, and used metallic, splashed paint in the single artwork. She is heavily active on social media, had has said she sees it not only as a promotional tool but a way for creative exchange with other artists.[3] Her social media accounts focus on both personal and stylised photos in which she experiments with makeup and fashion, as well as photots and videos which depict her in the recording studio and performing live.
