Pheel Balliana (born September 29, 1976, in Andria, Italy) is a crooner, composer and performer. He sings in a mix of languages, primarily in English, but with phrases and lyrics in Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and the occasional French.

His solo album is "Gold Trash Latino[1]", recorded in between Cuba, Italy and Brazil and released in 2016. It features acoustic guitar, percussion, accordion and lots of trumpets, plus samples from old vinyls, as: "Que Rico el Mambo" by Perez Prado for "La Rica", "Americana" by Glenn Miller for "Failure" and "One Mint Julip" by Ray Charles for "Just One Time".

Early life and career beginnings[edit]

Pheel was born Filippo Carlos Balliana, in Andria in Apulia (Italy). His father owned an antique shop, worked for a time behind-the-scenes in Circo Orlando Orfei, a classic Italian circus, and even ran a disco back in the 1970s. Pheel grew up listening to the disco-era vinyls. He has worked as a wedding singer, a vocalist in discotheques from Milan to Jakarta, in cabarets in the red-light district of Paris and as a club-land recording artist. In 2000, Pheel Balliana opened the Zurich Energy Street Parade [2] as master-of-ceremonies. He welcomed a crowd of more than 1 million people and performed on the first truck ahead of 40 floats. Pheel's major artistic school was performing at the Supperclub in Rome, (2005 to 2010), then in San Francisco (2009 and 2011) and Los Angeles (2011).

First releases[edit]

His first singles were house-music records with Joe T. Vannelli. "Nitebush[3]" (Dreambeat Records[4]), released in 2001, was acclaimed by Billboard Magazine US.[5] "Mary (Lady Whore)[6]" (Dreambeat Records) was out in 2004. In 2005, Pheel Balliana and Joe T. Vannelli released the hit "White Wedding[7]" (Universal Records) which sold well in Russia.[8]

Life in Paris and collabs[edit]

From 2009 to 2012, Pheel lived in Paris. During these years, he has worked with the dandy deejays Bart & Baker on four different EPs, and collaborated on remixes by Nicola Conte, the electro-jazz artist from Bari. Later on, the song like "What Can I do For You" have been included on the official compilations for Space Club Ibiza, Buddha Bar XVII[9] and Saint Germain des Prés Café by Thievery Corporation. On 2017, the electro swing oriented album "Pheel Balliana Sings Bart&Baker"[10] was released worldwide.

Gold Trash Latino[edit]

His first solo album "Gold Trash Latino[11]", produced by Gabriel Souto and Ignacio Cervantes, in between Brazil, Cuba and Italy, was launched on 2016 in Brazil and the first single's video "Failure" won the "Hangar Premio Da Musica", as best video of the year. "Failure" was the first clip of a video trilogy, followed by the releases of "Time" and "La Rica", both released in 2017.

The album features acoustic guitar, percussion, the accordion and trumpets, plus samples from old vinyls: Que Rico el Mambo by Perez Prado for LA RICA, Americana by Glenn Miller for FAILURE and One Mint Julip by Ray Charles for JUST ONE TIME. Using a mobile phone, Pheel Balliana also recorded sounds from the city, radios in Cuba, children’s music boxes, the audio from a porn-movie, the cries of street vendors and itinerant salesman from Ipanema beach. The album is a party of collaborators. The Cuban experience featured a full orchestra directed by Ignacio “el Chispa” Cervantes and the rumberos Irian and Manley Lopez from Los Chinitos.

The producer is Gabriel Souto, based in Natal, Brazil. On the city, Pheel Balliana worked with the musicians Diogo Guanabara, Camila Masiso, Kleber Moreira, Henrique Pacheco, Antonio de Padua, Tiquinha Rodriguez and the circus acrobat and singer Luisa Guedes. Gold Trash Latino includes latin beats, reggae, rumba, bolero and r&b. The lyrics are focused on love and spiritual clarity. The album goal is to bring attention to poverty through education and social change, especially in terms of the needs of children.
