Matt Hicks is an American computer engineer and business executive who serves as President and Chief executive officer (CEO) of Red Hat since July 12, 2022.[7][8][9][10]

Early life[edit]

Matt got a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Hardware engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2001. In the same year, he started to work in IBM as a Software Group Developer and Global Services Consultant until 2006.[11]

Career at Red Hat[edit]

Matt joined Red Hat in 2006 as an Engineering Team Lead to oversee migration of internal apps form a legacy to a J2EE-based infastructure. He then allegedly rose ranks due to his partecipation of multiple tasks within the company, getting promoted to Senior Vice President in April 2010 and to Executice Vice President in April 2020. In his career, he is reported to be involved in a wide range of company's products such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ansible, OpenStack and most importantly OpenShift.[12]

OpenShift Development[edit]

Matt is said to be a foundational member of OpenShift, a commercial cloud suit for containerization built around Kubernetes. He lead the development of the suit and gave seminars about it in several summits.[13][14] One of his last achievements before getting appointed as CEO was to make a deal with ABB over usage of OpenShift for increasing automation capabilities of the company.[15][16][17]

Becoming CEO[edit]

Matt replaced Paul Cormier as President and CEO of Red Hat on 12 July 2022 by a press release announced by the company. In his announcement, Paul praised Matt to be the right person to replace him as a true Red Hatter that understands company's product strategy.[18]
