Matt Marshall (politician)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Matt Marshall is an American politician and founder of the Washington State Three Percenters, which he founded when he broke from the national Three Percenters for philosophical reasons.[1] Marshall was born and raised in Washington state.[2] Marshall currently holds a seat on the Board of the Eatonville School District[3] and is running for State Representative. Marshall is a constitutional conservative.[1]

Education[edit]

Marshall holds an Associate of Science degree from George Washington University, a Bachelor of Science from University of Nebraska, and a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.[4]

Career[edit]

He has worked as a firefighter, emergency medical technician and served 12 years in the military, serving two tours overseas, first as a non-commissioned officer, then as a commissioned officer.[2] He is an Adjunct Professor for the University of Maryland Global campus and has taught science to college students all over the world. He also taught Combat Casualty Care and Emergency First Response while serving in the military.[4]

Politics[edit]

Matt Marshall is a constitutional conservative. He has been involved community outreach and in advocating for veterans across Washington State.[4] He is the founder of the Washington State Three Percenters.[3] In January of 2019, Matt Marshall and the Washington Three Percenters, which he founded, united with the left-wing group Puget Sound John Brown Gun Club to stand against the white supremacy groups such as the Patriot Front, had been dropping racist flyers in and around Tacoma, Washington. Washington State Three Percenters also find solitary with the Puget Sound John Brown Gun Club in their support of the 2nd Amendment.[5]

Marshall believes that, as Mark Twain once said, "Politicians are like diapers, they should be changed regularly and for the same reason"[6] and has introduced an initiative to the state legislature to limit state terms.[7]

Marshall is leading a grassroots effort to recall Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson on ground of malfeasance, misfeasance, and a violation of his oath of office. According to Marshall, Ferguson has weaponized his office for his own political agenda. In October 2019, Scott Bannister, in coordination with Marshall, organized a public meeting with the Thurston County Sheriff and County Commissioner to discuss criminal charges against Ferguson and the possibility of Ferguson being arrested. Many of the citizens at the meeting were from the Washington Three Percenters. On December 15, 2019, Marshall filed a petition with Secretary of State's Office to remove Ferguson. [8][9]

Political career[edit]

Eatonville School District Board member[edit]

In 2018, Matt Marshall ran for a seat on the Board of the Eatonville School District. He won by a 25% margin[3] and was sworn in as a member of the Board of Eatonville School District in December 2019.[4]

Washington State Representative[edit]

Matt Marshall is running in the Republican primary for the State Representative for Washington's Legislative District 2 in the 2020 election. He is running against House Minority Leader State Rep. J.T. Wilcox.

Marshall decided to enter the race after the incumbent called for the resignation of fellow Representative Matt Shea.[7] According to Marshall, despite never having passed a resolution to commission an investigation, Washington State Legislature spent over $100,000.00 to investigate Rep. Shea[7] regarding his actions during the Occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. In the investigative report, Shea was labeled a “domestic terrorist”[6] but never identified any crime committed by him. Afterwards he was "stripped of all legislative aides, titles, his office moved to the basement and he’s suspended from the Republican Caucus". Marshall believes that Shea was targeted because "did not conform to party leadership when he was demanded, and he isn’t a yes-man." According to Marshall, the report was part of a "bipartisan, multi-year political hit job.”[6] Marshall states that the FBI looked into the incident and at no point considered charging Shea.[7] "Shea’s only involvement in the standoff was to coordinate peace," Marshall told reporters.[6]

"If elected", Marshall said, he plans to "drain the Evergreen swamp." He also said he plans on focusing on three guiding principles: to obey the Constitution, represent the people of the 2nd Legislative District and do what is ethical.[6]

"I will always advocate for decreased regulation, decreased taxes, improved transparency, fiscal responsibility and all Constitutional rights," Marshall states on his campaign website.[6]
