Matt Orum (born 1987) is a professional disc golfer from Creola, Alabama, currently competing on the PDGA National Tour, Disc Golf Pro Tour, and Southern Nationals circuits. He Joined the Professional Disc Golf Association in 1999 and became a professional in 2002, at 16 years old.[1]

Professional Career[edit]

Orum won his first PDGA A-Tier tournament in 2004 and finished in a tie for second place at the 2005 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championship with Barry Schultz, three strokes behind winner Nate Doss.[2] At the 2009 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championship and the 2018 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championship, Orum placed third and fifth, respectively.[3][4] Throughout his career, Orum has played in 16 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships, and finished in the top 10 nine times.[5] In both 2010 and 2013, Orum ranked seventh in the world in the PDGA's World Rankings[6][7] and finished the 2018 season ranked third overall.[8] As of August, 2021, Orum ranks ninth overall in UDisc's World Rankings.[9] As an amateur, Orum finished third at the 2002 PDGA Amateur Disc Golf World Championship in the Junior I Boys division.[10]

In 287 career PDGA events, he has 68 wins and has amassed $194,618 in winnings. Orum also competes regularly in the Southern Nationals Disc Golf Series, playing in 28 events since 2018, winning 18 tournaments and collecting $12,156 in winnings.[11]

Personal life[edit]

Orum is a life-long fan of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide athletic teams, and is notable for both wearing houndstooth pattern clothing, reminiscent of former Crimson Tide football coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, during tournaments and ending interviews with "Roll Tide!"[14][15][16] Orum's late father, Jim Orum, was a co-founder of the Southern Nationals Disc Golf Series.[17]
