Matt Walsh (born 20 February 1986) is a rugby league footballer who has represented the United States national team. Primarily playing at halfback, Walsh was selected as a member of the United States' squad for the 2017 World Cup.
Playing career[edit]
Originally from Sydney, Australia, Walsh currently plays for the White Plains Wombats in the USA Rugby League, having previously played for the Connecticut Wildcats before they folded at the end of the 2015 season. In 2015, Walsh played at halfback for the United States in both of their 2017 World Cup qualifying matches.[3] After attending an open tryout for the Toronto Wolfpack, Walsh was one of eighteen players selected to attend a training camp in West Yorkshire, England in December 2016.[4] The oldest member of the camp, Walsh captained the squad in their friendly match against the Brighouse Rangers, where he set up a try for Quinn Ngawati.[5] On September 24, 2017, Walsh was named in the United States' 23-man squad for the 2017 World Cup.[6] He was later ruled out of the tournament after injuring his back.[7]
