Matthew Gross[1] [2] is an Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated American Film and Television Producer, Writer and Director. Gross serves as President of his own Feature Film and Television Production Company, Gross Entertainment.
Education[edit]
Gross received his Master of Fine Arts from the American Film Institute and graduated from University of California, Los Angeles with a major in Economics. Gross is on the board for Austin Film Festival[3] and has been since its inception. He also taught at the USC School of Cinematic Arts - MFA graduate program.
Career[edit]
Gross is an Executive Producer on David E. Kelley’s new hit series Big Sky (American TV series)[4] for American Broadcasting Company[5], 20th Television and A&E Studios.
Universal Television[edit]
From 2018 to 2020, Gross Entertainment had a pod/overall deal at Universal Television, where Gross produced The InBetween[6] for NBC.
Live Stage[edit]
In 2018, Gross produced the live stage musical adaptation of the Oscar-winning film The Sting at The Paper Mill Playhouse starring Harry Connick, Jr.
Europacorp[edit]
From 2014 to 2017 Gross was the President of EuropaCorp Television Studios[7], USA, a studio he formed with Luc Besson from the ground up, overseeing all development, production, distribution, finance, and business affairs. While at EuropaCorp Television, Gross developed and executive produced the television series Taken (2017 TV series)[8] for NBC.
A&E Studios[edit]
In 2014, Gross produced History channel’s event historical mini-series, Sons of Liberty (miniseries) for A&E Studios.
ABC Studios[edit]
From 2003 to 2014, Gross had a pod/overall deal with ABC Studios. While at ABC, Gross developed and was the Executive Producer/Co-Showrunner of Body of Proof[9] starring Dana Delany for three seasons. He also Executive Produced two seasons of the hit ABC series Dirty Sexy Money, starring Peter Krause, Donald Sutherland, and Lucy Liu. Additionally, he developed and Executive Produced the critically acclaimed and award-winning action series Day Break starring Taye Diggs. Gross also developed and produced the television pilots Murder in Manhattan, See Kate Run, Twenty Questions and The Neighbors (2012 TV series). Matt also wrote and directed multiple episodes of Body of Proof and directed episodes of Dirty Sexy Money.
Feature Films[edit]
Gross produced the motion pictures Fired Up!, Joe Somebody and the critically acclaimed Beatles musical Across the Universe (film) (Golden Globe nominee). He received an Academy Award nomination for his live-action short film Bronx Cheers.
Kopelson Entertainment[edit]
Gross is the former President of Production of Kopelson Entertainment and Kopelson Telemedia. During his tenure (1997 - 2002), the company produced The Devil's Advocate (1997 film), A Perfect Murder, U.S. Marshals (film), Mad City (film), Murder at 1600, Don't Say a Word and Twisted (2004 film). On the TV side, Gross developed The Fugitive (2000 TV series) and Thieves (TV series).
Paramount Television / Wilshire Court Productions[edit]
From 1990 to 1996, Gross was the Executive Vice-President of Wilshire Court Productions, where he developed and supervised more than 65 films for USA Network and various other networks.
