Brian Cury is an American entrepreneur. He is the CEO & Founder of EarthCam, a New Jersey-based company providing webcam content, technology and services for a wide range of organizations and government entities around the world.

Cury also works with companies in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction industries by documenting construction jobsites around the world, including Yankee Stadium, Panama Canal, San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, the Louvre Abu Dhabi and restorations for the Statue of Liberty and Washington Monument.[1]

Life and Career[edit]

Cury grew up in New York City and Englewood, NJ. He attended University of Kentucky, where he created a self-designed major, combining Computer Science and Film making programs. Cury graduated from University of Kentucky in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.[2]

In 1982, Cury went on to attend graduate film studies at New York University, but left the program to work on-set at Saturday Night Live.[3]

In 1983, Cury started his own television production company, UN Productions, producing television commercials and short films.[3] In addition to working on various movies and TV shows for NBC and MTV Networks,[4] Cury managed Calvert DeForest, better known as Larry “Bud” Melman.[5] Cury and Larry “Bud” Melman became regulars on the college spring break scene in Daytona, Florida during the 80 and 90s, which was highlighted in the 2016 documentary, “Spring Broke”, which Cury produced and appeared in.

Cury became an expert in college marketing and imported some of the first karaoke equipment from Tokyo to the United States. He went on to patent “make your own video” entertainment marketing systems, such as Video a Go-Go and Comedy Karaoke.[6][7]

on August 30, 1996, Cury pioneered EarthCam, an early internet-based business.[8][9] Cury built and installed the first live webcam in Times Square to broadcast the New Year’s Eve celebrations and persuaded the City of New York to issue its first webcasting press passes to EarthCam.[10]

In 2001, just days after the September 11 attacks at the World Trade Center, EarthCam installed a live webcam to broadcast the rescue and recovery efforts for the families of the victims and people around the world. Cury continues to document construction and rebuilding of the World Trade Center and National September 11 Memorial & Museum using proprietary construction camera technology.[11]

In 2006, EarthCam won the Webby People’s Voice Award for Best Tourism website.[12]

In 2011, through EarthCam's partnership with the National Park Service, Cury personally installed HD webcams on the Statue of Liberty’s torch balcony – which has been closed to the public since 1916 – for her 125th birthday.[13]
