Mauro Alfonso (born 1968) is an Italian businessman, CEO of SIMEST since December 2019.[1]
Education
After completing studies in classics, Mauro Alfonso graduated in business economics at Bocconi University in 1993.[2]
Career
Alfonso started to work at Innovest, a company operating in the field of investment banking, then he joined Caboto Holding (now Banca IMI) in 1996, which was active in capital market services.
In 1999, he began working on asset management at BNP Paribas Asset Management first and at Société Générale Asset Management immediately afterwards, in 2000, as Head of Distribution.
From 2003, he continued to work in the finance sector, but switched to credit ratings joining Fitch Ratings, where for almost a decade he was senior director for Italy.[3] In 2012, he left Fitch Ratings for Dagong, the first Chinese credit rating company.[4] In Dagong[5][6] he worked on its launch in Europe,[7] thus on the opening of the company's European branch, Dagong Europe Credit Rating in a joint-venture with Mandarin Capital Partners, of which he was the general director. One of his goals was to reach 5% market share.[8] In 2014, Alfonso left Dagong[9] but continued working on ratings, joining Cerved Group as rating activities director. Only a few months later, he launched a new spin-off company of Cerved, Cerved Rating Agency, and he was its first chief executive officer.[10]
In December 2019, he was appointed chief executive officer of SIMEST,[11][12] a company of the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti Group.
