May-Li Khoe (born 1977) is a Dutch-Canadian interdisciplinary artist, designer, design leader, and speaker.[1]. While at Apple she worked on the first iPhone[2][3]. She is the co-founder of Scribble and Sprout.[4][5] She served as VP of Design at Khan Academy.[6] Her work has been covered by Game Developer Magazine[7]

Career[edit]

Khoe graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering, and in 2000 with a Masters of Engineering.[8] She did undergraduate research with Pattie Maes at the MIT Media Lab and graduate research with Julie Dorsey at the Laboratory for Computer Science (now CSAIL). She worked at LeapFrog Enterprises, Microsoft, Apple, and Khan Academy where she served as vice-president of Design and founded the Khan Academy Long-term Research effort.[9]

Khoe was part of the team at Apple that invented the original augmented reality face filters and effects.[10][11][12]

Khoe has been interviewed by Rene Ritchie for iMore and Oliver Lindberg for Shaping Design.[13][14] She has also been invited to speak at numerous international conferences and festivals including CreativeMornings Oakland, Framer Loupe 2018 in Amsterdam, Layers Conference in San Jose, California, Uenoland in Brooklyn, New York, and Lincoln Center Activate in New York City.[15][16][17][18][19][20][21]

Along with Andy Matuschak, Khoe created Boogie Loops, a music-creation game for the Playdate game console.[22] The game was included in its Season 1 game package.[23]
