May Toe Khine (Burmese: မေတိုးခိုင် born on May 7, 1995) is a Burmese actress and a fashion and commercial model. May Toe Khine, also a fashion student, is one of the rising stars in the Burmese film and commercial industry today.[1] She made her acting debut in the movie, Yuu Aung Chit Met Lu where she gained a vast amount of attention and recognition for her performance.[2]
Early Life[edit]
May Toe Khine was born on 7 May 1995 to parents, father, Toe Khine and mother, Ei Kyaw Zin. She was born in Yangon General Hospital. She is the oldest among three sisters. The name May Toe Khine was given by her parents due to her first name being the month, May she was born in, followed by her father's full name as family name. She attended the school, International Language & Business Centre since elementary till she took her IGCSE in 2012 in Yangon. She then attended a public university located in Manchester, England named Manchester Metropolitan University. [3] As a daughter of a recognized fashion designer in Burma, she naturally grew up in the surrounding of fashion, textile, design, and tailoring. After completing second year, she returned home for a break due to health issues.

She is a niece of Eaindra Kyaw Zin, a successful academy winning Burmese actress who is also married to an academy winning Burmese actor Pyay Ti Oo.[4] May is also a niece of siblings, singer Hayma Ne Win and well-known Burmese actor Yaza Ne Win.[5]
Career[edit]
May initially did not have a plan to come into the film industry although her hobbies always leaned into entertainment, such as modelling, creating designs and more. Before going abroad to study in Manchester in 2014, May started out as a commercial model for her mother's fashion clothing line, by helping promote her family business. After returning home during summer upon completion of second year, she had to take a gap year in 2016 due to hyperthyroidism, which she has now fully recovered from.
Acting career and popularity[edit]
It was during that gap year in 2016 that she was offered to be casted as one of the three lead roles, in her first big-screen movie, Yuu Aung Chit Met Lu where she played alongside the top tier award winning actor and actress, Eaindra Kyaw Zin and Nay Toe. She gained attention from the public by her participation in the movie. She displayed her character, Akhaya innocently but also dramatically due to the flow of the film, gaining more love, praise and recognition from the public. Due to delays in post-production period, the movie premiered on 12 September 2019 after 3 years. Although May Toe Khine stated that the role was a challenge for her due to the character's personality being the opposite from her real-life personality,[6] there were many reviews that expressed her strong achievements as a first timer.[7] The three lead actors and actresses of the movie actively promoted the movie by participating in interviews, fan signing events, premiere shows and this gained broad attention across burmese social media on top of the positive reviews of the film itself.
She has been actively promoting as an actress by taking part in several music videos and short commercials for years. She was also casted alongside Naw Phaw Eh Htar in 2018 in a travel documentary series named Mythical Myanmar Bagan, in which the two travel around Bagan, an ancient city considered as UNESCO world heritage site, discovering the culture, beauty and learning the history together.[8]
In 2019, she was casted as one of the lead roles in a non-profit short film named Kalay A Tharr Kharr Thi, based on a story of child rape and sexual abuse. The objective of this short film is to raise awareness on the severity of rape and sexual violence against children. She portrayed the character of a female journalist Mya Hnin Si, who is determined to find out about the truth behind a child rape and willing to lose everything to do so. Film details such as air date and network have not been announced yet.
May was selected as one of the Shwe Kyo, who are known to be the rising stars of the year and the polished ushers of the 2018 Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards, which is the biggest film award ceremony in Burma by doing the honors of delivering results to announcers and awards to winners. It normally takes months to plan and weeks of regular practice to be successfully carry out the role. May received the honors of ushering and assisting Aung San Suu Kyi, a Burmese politician and diplomat loved and respected by the entire country, on stage.[9]
In October 2019, May was one of the Burmese representatives who was invited to attend the Viber Rakuten Asia Summit in Singapore.
May has been said to be offered many roles for short mini series and is now going through the process of properly reading and reviewing scripts.
Career as a fashion model and designer[edit]
May has also taken part as a catwalk model in many fashion shows such as Lush Magazine's annual shows, Vivid Fashion Taste's fashion shows and more. Additionally, May made use of her fashion knowledge she gained from university to take part in her mother's fashion show by designing her own fashion line, represented by well-known Burmese catwalk models in a separate round. She has said to help her mother out in her business with many wedding dresses and outfits.[10]
May has also been on both the covers and pages of many local well-known magazines such as Lush Magazine, Moda Magazine, People magazine Myanmar, Fashion Magazine and more.
Career as a commercial model[edit]
May has starred in several commercials for both well known Burmese brand labels and international branded luxury such as Hearty Heart cosmetics, Nichii clothing line, OPPO mobile phone, Revlon Cosmetics, Pantra Beauty Cosmetics, The Saem Korean Cosmetics, Pond's beauty and healthcare products, DAKS British Luxury Fashion House, The Bridge Italian brand bags, Nagar Pyan Jasmine Tea, Taung Gyi Maut Mae Thanakhar, Cheese O'Tea bubble tea, Mandalay Watch and many more.
She has also worked with well-recognized brands such as Estee Lauder, Telenor, Armani Exchange, KFC Myanmar, Shwe Nan Daw jewellry and more.
Brand Ambassadorships[edit]
She is currently a brand ambassador for Sunkist Myanmar and was an ambassador for OPPO.
Humanitarian works[edit]
May is known to actively participate in charity events that accept donations involve fan signings, playing games with fans and providing fan services.[11] May is known to have contributed to the society by donating to animal shelters, orphanages on her birthday annually.[12] She is currently taking part in Plastic Time Off Campaign with the objective of raising awareness on usage of plastic.
