Maymon Poulose is an Indian born Track & Field athlete who has won the Gold medal at the All India Inter-University Athletic Championships, 2017 for the 110m Hurdles event. He is supported by the GoSports Foundation through the Abhinav Bindra Targeting Performance Programme
Early life and background[edit]
Maymon Paulose hails from Kerala and is currently training at the Thoppe Stadium in Thrissur. He tried his hand in 110m Hurdles when he was 13 years old and was in 8th standard. His father is an autorickshaw driver.
Career[edit]
Owing to financial constraints, Maymon trains only ahead of national competitions, and not through the year. Despite the infrequent manner of training, he has gone on to represent India at multiple international competitions. Maymon speaks highly of his coach, M.C. Varghese, who has transformed and improved his performance. He rates him as his idol and he was a vital cog in recognizing his acumen for the sport. The 20-year old has since been creating a name for himself after winning medals at the international stage with a Silver medal at the Youth Olympic Games in Thailand, 2014, Silver medal at the Asian Junior Athletic Championships, Vietnam, 2016 and the Gold medal at the University Athletic Championships, 2017. He was also part of the Indian contingent which went to the World Junior Athletic Championships in 2016 and aspires to represent India at the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020.
