McKenna Hunter (born October 7, 1993) is an American author [1] known for her "Hunter Hemisphere" children's book collection.

Life and career[edit]

Born as Tai McKinnon in Voorhees Township, New Jersey, Hunter was raised on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey. Shortly after moving to Lumberton, New Jersey she began to show great interest in storytelling and began writing and performing in plays with her cousin Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut. After graduating from Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mount Holly, New Jersey, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and International Relations at Rowan University. While attending Rowan, Hunter studied abroad at Korea University in Seoul, South Korea. After returning to America, Hunter graduated with her Master of Arts in Criminology and rekindled her interest in storytelling, formally pursuing a career in literature.

Hunter's writing was initially inspired by author Barbara Park, creator of the Junie B. Jones children's book series and fellow alum of Rancocas Valley Regional High School. Hunter also draws inspiration from Maya Angelou and Toni Morrison whom are her sorority sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Hunter frequently includes her motto "Better Together Siempre" [2] , or "Better Together Always" in her work, which is represented by her milk and honey logo.
