. This film was based on the Hindi movie *Trishul*. It was remade in Tamil under the title *Kadal Meengal*, starring Kamal Haasan; the film ran for 100 days and became a massive hit.

story

Kuriakose (Madhu) is a fisherman from Kadappuram, Kollam, and Sarah Shubha is his lover. He acquires a boat under a government scheme, a move opposed by the traditional boatmen. When local traders refused to buy his catch, he began transporting it to Kannur. There, he becomes acquainted with Devutty (Srividya), the daughter of Nanu (Nellikkode Bhaskaran). He leaves the place without knowing that a child has been born to them. Upon returning to Kollam, he finds Sarah in a compromising situation.. Having succeeded in the fishing industry, he builds a business empire. Already married, he has a daughter named Roslin (Ambika). His elder brother Varkey (P.K. Abraham) and his son (Lalu Alex) join him, and they manage the day-to-day operations. Years later, Roslin falls in love with a singer named Jose (Jose). Kuriakose opposes the relationship upon learning that Jose is Sarah's son. Devutti, who has lost her husband, lives a life of hardship with her son Rajan (Jayan). Out of desperation, she reveals to Rajan that Kuriakose is his father. Rajan arrives in Kollam and sets out to oppose Kuriakose, aided by a businessman named Tharakan (Balan K. Nair). Rajan grows close to Tharakan's daughter, Sherly (Seema). He causes Kuriakose to suffer a massive financial loss during a timber auction; Varkey questions this move, leading to a rift between them.Varkey transfers his assets to Rajan's name as a *benami* (proxy) arrangement. Kuriakose, whose only possessions are the house he lives in and a few boats, is left devastated. Meanwhile, Roslin marries Jose with Rajan's help. Kuriakose discovers that Rajan is his son. He eventually dies during a confrontation with his enemies.
