Meatlocker Seven is a Canadian metal band from Victoria, British Columbia.
History[edit]
Formed in 1995[1] by Mike Selman, Tony Oliviera and Steve Migliarese, the band originally practiced in an old meat storage facility in meatlocker #7.[2] In 1997 the band released their debut album 'Corrode' with Aaron Clark on vocals and Montreal drummer Dave Askins. With the departure of Aaron Clark, Quin McCulloch joined for a series of live shows including several opening slots for Canadian legends Strapping Young Lad[3] and Dayglo Abortions. Following the departure of Dave Askins and Quin McCulloch, Bram Harvey (vocals) and Chris Lorette (drums) both came onboard and the band began writing 'The Biological Mechanism of Hate' which was met with critical acclaim and eventually picked up by Galy Records[4] and Century Media Records distro. In 2003 Exclaim! Magazine wrote "A shockingly professional piece of independent metal from Victoria, the sophomore release from this long-running band will no doubt raise a few eyebrows in the big metal leagues. It's hard to not just dwell on the wonderful, thick, damn near perfect production sound, but the tunes themselves prove to be instantly memorable."[5] Following several years of touring the album, Chris Lorette left the band and was replaced by Dave Krull shortly before the band embarked on a short Canadian tour with death metal legends Cryptopsy. In 2004 the band released the 4 song EP, 'Depression Earth'. Following the release, Tony Oliviera and Dave Krull both left the band and were replaced by Lincoln McCulloch (drums) and Darryl Curren (guitar) - Of note, Lincoln's brother Quin was previously on vocals prior to Bram Harvey joining the band. ML7 released a 2 song EP in 2005 but disbanded shortly thereafter to pursue other projects. Mike Selman went on to help form the first lineup of Unleash The Archers and play guitar on their debut release 'Behold The Devastation'.[6] Migliarese, Curren and McChulloch formed 'Rotterdam' and Bram Harvey went on to sing for 'A Lethal Dose of Blunt Force Trauma'. Later, Oliviera, Lorette and Aaron Clark formed an ML7 off-shoot colloquially named 'Mechanism of Hate' who played some originals and some ML7 covers. In 2022 rumors of a reunion arose but to date, the band has remained silent on the topic.
