Medanta is an Indian hospital chain based in Gurgaon.[1] Medanta was started in 2009 by cardiac surgeon Naresh Trehan and Sunil Sachdeva with the launch of Medanta - The Medicity, a super-specialty hospital in Gurgaon which was built at a cost of over 1,000 crore (equivalent to Formatting error: invalid input when rounding or US$Formatting error: invalid input when rounding in 2018).[2][3][4] The chain has since expanded its network to other cities including Noida, Lucknow, Indore, Ranchi and Patna.[5][6]

The chain is owned and managed by Global Health Limited. It launched its initial public offering on 3 November 2022.[7]

Investors[edit]

US-based PE firm Carlyle Group acquired a 27% stake in Medanta from US-based Avenue Capital Group in 2013 at a valuation of US$600 million (Rs 3,540 crore in 2013).[8] In 2015, Singapore-based Temasek Holdings purchased a 18% stake from Punj Lloyd. Trehan and his family, along with Sachdeva, own the remaining stake in Medanta.[9] In 2021, it was reported that Global Health Ltd, which operates and manages hospitals under the Medanta brand, is planning an initial public offering (IPO).[10]
