MedjetAssist is an air medical transport membership program for travelers.[3] The company headquarters are located in Birmingham, AL.[4][5] The company was founded in 1998 and has between 11-50 employees. MedjetAssist membership caters to residents of the United States, Canada and Mexico. However, people from other countries may apply for membership which will be approved at the discretion of MedjetAssist.[6][7][8]

History[edit]

Medjet International was an air ambulance company; they created a membership program for travelers in 1991 called Medjet Assistance. Later in 1998 Medjet Assistance was sold and rebranded as Medjet Assistance LLC. The company is an Indirect Air Carrier that works with licensed air carriers to facilitate air ambulance transportation for its members worldwide. In 2003 the company was renamed as MedjetAssist. And since 2006, Medjet has been used officially as a secondary brand name.

Services[edit]

MedjetAssist provides medical transfer to travelers. Their services are available globally. A MedjetAssist member will be transported to any hospital of his/her choice in their home country. If a member is more than 150 miles away from their primary residence and develops a medical condition, then MedjetAssist handles monitoring of his/her health, communication and coordination with the local medical provider and the member’s family or employer and also provides telephonic interpretation if language becomes a barrier for effective communication between the member and the local medical provider. In case of the member’s death while traveling more than 150 miles away from primary residence, the company arranges the remains to be transferred to the member’s funeral home.[9]

Types of Membership[edit]

Individual memberships that cater to various age groups are available. Some memberships, i.e., the collegiate membership or the motorcycle membership are specialized for certain types of people. There are group memberships and corporate memberships also available.

An upgraded version known as Horizon membership is also available. This membership has all the benefits of regular membership along with extra features like travel security and crisis response and specialty hospital transfer.[10]

Medjet membership allows its members two transports per year, provided that the member is aged 74 or less. In case of an accident where multiple members of the same family were injured, each member will receive one transport provided that he/she has a MedjetAssist membership.[11]
