Medwin Publishers

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Medwin Publishers is an open-access publisher of academic journals and organizer of conferences. It has a postal address in the United States,[1] but is actually based in Hyderabad, India.[2] The company is contained on Beall's list of potential predatory journals and publishers.[3]

Activities[edit]

Medwin publishers has been active since 2016. As of January 2023, they published more than 80 journals, among them journals "in the fields of Dental [sic!], Pediatrics, Diabetes, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Biotechnology, Virology".[4] The company uses an open-access model of publishing which charges the authors. The company claims that articles are peer reviewed.[5] Time between submission and publication of an article typically is about 2 weeks. Such times are very short, compared with those required for a thorough peer review process in recognized academic journals.[6] Medwin Publishers' journals have no editors-in-chief. Their journals are not listed in Clarivate's Web of Science,[7] which calculates Impact factors for scientific journals, but Medwin Publishers displays a so-called "IF" for each of its journals, whose origins are not explained. Medwin Publishers' journals are not indexed in Medline, Scopus or Web of Science.

Criticism[edit]

The company is contained on Beall's list of potential predatory journals and publishers.[8] The company or its journals have been criticized for sending unsolicited emails to scientists, calling out for papers.[9]
