Meenakshi Negi
Meenakshi Negi is an Indian Administrative Service officer from the Uttarakhand cadre. A 1997-batch IAS officer, she has held various posts in state and central governments before her current appointment. She was appointed Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) & Head of Forest Force (HoFF) for Karnataka in July 2024, making her the first woman to head the state's forest department.[1][2][3] She previously worked as a member of the National Commission for Women (NCW).[4][5]
Career
Indian Administrative Service
Negi joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1997 and belongs to the Uttarakhand cadre.[4][5]
National Commission for Women (2023–2024)
Negi joined the NCW as a member in June 2023.[4][5]
During her tenure, she investigated and addressed several issues:
- She investigated patterns of human trafficking involving girls from South India being taken to Jammu and Kashmir.[7]
- She addressed the importance of public opinion in tackling women's issues.[9]
- She was involved in launching entrepreneurship awareness programmes for women, including the NCW's collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) to organize 100 Entrepreneurship Awareness Programmes across the country.[10]
Head of Forest Force, Karnataka (2024–present)
Negi took over as Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) & Head of Forest Force for Karnataka in July 2024, replacing retired IFS officer Rajiv Ranjan.[3][2] She became the first woman to head the state's forest department.[1] The department she now leads has been dealing with staff shortages, with half of the frontline positions currently empty.[11]
