Meet5 is a social network app which facilitates and acts as a platform for small-group social gatherings. The app is operated by Meet5 GmbH, a company headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Founded in 2017, the app has over 3 million users and is active in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, and the USA, and is available in German, English, French, and Dutch.[1][2] It is available as a mobile application for Android and iOS devices.[3][4] The app is primarily focused on building social connection for people 40+, and every member can organize their own activities, or join existing ones. Meet5 aims to connect people online to have offline get-togethers based on shared interests and fun activities.[5]
History
Meet5’s founding team is made up of Lukas Reinhardt, CEO, and Kai Burghardt, CTO. They founded Meet5 in April 2017, initially as a small group dating app called Go Crush.[6]
Concept
Meet5 is a community platform where people can join group activities and build new friendships. Activities members create must be non-commercial and non-political. Online video calls are offered weekly to welcome new members. In Europe, recurring activities called Meet5 weeklies and Meet5 monthlies take place in over 200 cities, and are hosted by local leaders called community captains.[7][8] Community Captains are local volunteers chosen by the Meet5 team who host multiple activities per month and act as the human connection between the Meet5 team and local users. Meet5 has around 1250 Community Captains as of 2025.[9][10][11][12]
Media coverage
Meet5 has been featured in several national media outlets in Germany, with a focus on the app’s role facilitating social connection for people 40 and over. The platform was described as an easy way to have real-life social encounters.
In fall 2025, Business Insider, Gründerszene, and other startup media outlets reported on Meet5’s leading role as a socializing platform in Europe. The pieces highlighted the positive benefits the network offers people who join.[13][14][15][16][17] CEO Lukas Reinhardt also was a guest on the podcasts Startup Insider and Digitale Vorreiter:Innen to share insights into Meet5’s business model and company development.[18][19] He provided insights into Meet5’s business model and company development. In September 2025, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (F.A.Z.) called Meet5 an alternative to dating apps.[20]
ZDF-Mittagsmagazin called Meet5 an app that banishes loneliness through free time activities with other people.[21] Other notable media coverage includes Bayerischer Rundfunk as a way to combat loneliness during the holidays[22] and the Germany Competence Center for Loneliness listed Meet5 as a nationwide support service.[23] The accessible news portal Kobinet-Nachrichten included Meet5 in a report on inclusive holiday activities.[24]
Funding and Paid Features
Meet5 is a freemium platform. According to the company, it is financed exclusively through paid upgrade subscriptions. The upgrade includes additional features such as private messaging. Meet5’s investors include Jost Schwaner, the former CEO of ElitePartner.[25] Meet5 has raised a total of €1.8 million in three completed funding rounds.[26][27][28]
In September 2025, Meet5 announced the successful completion of an €8 million Series A funding round, which was to be used for international expansion, hiring, and product development.[13]
Facts
According to Meet5, the platform had over 2.5 million members in September 2025[15] consisting of approximately 12% paying users. At the same time, the company reported that 40,000 activities took place via the app every month, with approximately 300,000 total participants. The average age of members is 49, and there are more female than male users. Meet5 is not a dating app and describes itself as a socializing and community network.[29]
Criticism
As of October 2025, Meet5’s rating on Trustpilot[30], the App Store[31], and Google Play store[32] was 4.7. User reviews of these platforms are primarily positive. However, some users criticize the pricing of Premium features, limited availability of activities outside major cities, and occasional technical issues. Some members also complain about last-minute cancellations from other members, and express dissatisfaction with the response time of customer support.
