Mehdi Barghi (مهدی برقی, born 21 January 1986) is an Iranian champion in Free-Style wrestler at the national level and current mixed martial artist signed to ONE Championship[2]
Early career
In 2015, Mehdi decided to start his career as an MMA fighter. He participated in the 2017 World MMA Championship took place in Kemer, Turkey as Amature (Weight cat. 95 kg) and placed second.[3] On August 26, 2017, Barghi Won a fight against Askar Mozharov, which resulted in being the belt owner.[4]
ONE Championship
In August 2020 news broke that Mehdi Barghi signed with the ONE Championship.[5] He was scheduled to make his second promotional debut against Reug Reug at ONE Championship: Big Bang on April 7, 2021.[5] [6] However, the fight was canceled due to a positive COVID-19 case in Mehdi's flight. He faced Kang Ji Won at ONE Championship: Unbreakable 3] on February 7, 2021.[7] Mehdi lost to Kang by first-round knockout.[7]
Mixed martial arts career
Barghi made his professional MMA debut in 2017 and fought in several promotions, including ONE Championship. His record includes notable victories and appearances:
- Defeated Kamran Jalilvand via TKO at IRIC Promotion 2 on August 17, 2024.[8]
- Lost to Odie Delaney via submission at ONE 158 on June 3, 2022.[9]
- Defeated Askar Mozharov via TKO at IPFC - YunFeng Duel: Global Kung Fu Masters on August 24, 2019.[10]
Bare-knuckle boxing
In 2024, Barghi debuted in bare-knuckle boxing at BKFC 58, held in Sofia, Bulgaria. He won his first fight with a first-round knockout over Nikolai Alexiev on March 22, 2024.[11]
