Melekwe Anthony E. is a Nigerian Author best known for his many suspense pieces published across North America, including Race By Moonlight, Blinded, The Gaze, Calamity: The Collection and Secrets (2021). He is the author of the 2020 novel "The Unwanted Guest" and currently holds the position of Foreign Editor for The Jacksonite Magazine.[1][2]

Early life[edit]

Melekwe Anthony was born in Ebutta Metta, Lagos State Nigeria. He attended Tindip College in Ikorodu, where he obtained a West Africa School Certificate after serving as Labour Prefect and Asst. Head Boy in his SS2 and SS3 classes respectively. Upon graduation, he was awarded Best In The Art Department. He gained admission in 2017 and proceeded to study Mass Communication at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, in Enugu State.[3]

Melekwe's proactivity began immediately he gained admission to study Mass Communication. He joined the Redeemed Church Fellowship (RCF) in 2017 and proceeded to affiliate with The Warriors Bulletin, the church's weekly publication. By his second year, Melekwe had risen to Associate Editor and was now a media trainee with Tananafun TV.[3]

Under the tutolage of his late roommate Chukwuemeka Akachi, the then Editor-in-Chief of The Muse,[3] Melekwe joined The Writers' Community UNN where he learnt to appreciate poetry and craft short stories. In early 2019, Melekwe left The Writers' Community and The Warriors Bulletin to pursue a career in student politics. He contested for Secretary General of Mass Communication Students' Association (MACSA) and won.[4] Melekwe assumed office on September 13, 2019, as Student Number #3 of the first school of Journalism in Sub-Saharan Africa.[5] While in office, he became a force for justice and fairness. He managed the association of 1249 students for a year and ten months, before handing over on July 11, 2021.

Still occupying office, Melekwe was elected President of Guardians Impact International, a nonprofit organization that trained youths on leadership and integrity. Guardians Impact International was a stepping stone because by the end of 2019, Melekwe became Nigerian Ambassador for a UK based public speaking organization, WeVoi International.[6] His ambassadorship lasted for two years. In November 2019, Melekwe became an editorial intern with the prominent Nigerian newspaper DailyTrust, working under the Southwestern Regional Editor Mr. Temitope Odunlami.

In August 2019, Melekwe joined the University of Nigeria Debating Society (UNDS) for which he represented his faculty in the all faculty SUG debate - Word War 3. His victory in the debate, gave him credibility to be appointed as one of the eight judges for University of Nigeria's Faculty of Art "Clash of Titans Debate" in 2021. After the one week debate featuring over 40 participants in the British parliamentary debate, Melekwe was awarded Best Adjudicator in mid June 2021, one month before he would leave office as Secretary General.

Literature[edit]

After the death of Chukwuemeka Akachi, Melekwe wrote his first poem about the pain of losing his friend. The Gaze was first published in 2019 by the New York City based Adelaide Literary Magazine.[7][2] This was soon followed by the publication of his two poems "Spaces" and "Abandoned" by Pride Magazine in Nigeria and "Nightmare" by The Yard in the UK.[8]

In March 2021, Melekwe was published on Fleas On The Dog (Toronto, Canada) for his poem titled "Blinded".[6] In May the same year, he was published again on the Inlandia Literary Journal in Riverdale, California for "I Am".[9] In that same month, Melekwe was published in Multiplicity Magazine, a Bay Path University owned literary magazine in Massachusetts for his "Calamity: The Collection".[4] In June, Melekwe was published on Wingless Dreamer for his short story "Race By Moonlight" and Rigorous Magazine for "Destiny".[3]

In August 2021, Melekwe was published on Dark Moon Digest and appeared on its issue #44 cover for his gothic short story titled "Shadows".[5] I Am was published a second time by Wingless Dreamer in the same month. In November, Melekwe was published twice on Sapphire Hues for two poems "Have You Known Sadness" and "Secrets".[10] He authored his first novel in 2020 and was released on November 18 the same year.


Career[edit]

Aside his time as Associate Editor for The Warriors Bulletin, Secretary General for Mass Communication Students' Association (MACSA) and Presidency of Guardians Impact International, Melekwe has occurred multiple positions over time.

In March 2021, he became Contributing Writer for Dead Talk Live USA working under the news section. He has many reviews to his name, including "Agatha Christie’s AND THEN THERE WERE NONE", "Survive The Night, The Review" and "Scary As Hell: The Taking Of Jake Livingston". In June 2021, Melekwe became the first black writer at the Hindu College Gazette in Delhi, India, and has been published many times since in its bi-monthly news magazine. Some of his works include; “Global Village”: A Fallacy?", "Fallacious Rectitudes Of Colonial Suppression: Jamaica Demands Reparations" and "Flying Africans: The Igbo Landing Story."

In August, a month later, Melekwe was recruited by Varemeng Netherlands as Staff Writer in the America-Europe Geopolitics Section. He still writes for USA Wire as a columnists and in October 2021, Melekwe was appointed Foreign Editor for The Jacksonite Magazine in Nigeria.
