History[edit]

Anthony Guarino, an Italian immigrant, founded Melrose Pyrotechnics (Melrose Fireworks Company at the time) in the early 1900s in Melrose Park, IL. Andrea and his son, Anthony Guarino, worked together until Andrea’s death in 1944 at which time Anthony took over the company. In 1954, Anthony Cartolano Sr, Anthony Guarino’s son in law, began building the business into a fully operating pyrotechnics company. After Anthony Cartolano Sr.’s passing in 1981, his son Michael Cartolano took over Melrose Pyrotechnics, Inc. in Kingsbury, Indiana.

At the time of Anthony Cartolano’ Sr.’s death, Melrose prepared and displayed fireworks for the Chicago White Sox and religious events. The company produced seven Fourth of July fireworks displays. Since then, Melrose has expanded and now performs hundreds of shows during the Fourth of July season alone.[1]
