Meridix is a live streaming platform allowing customers to broadcast live video and audio content online. The platform is optimized for sports broadcasting, and is primarily used to cover youth sports, high school sports, college sports, equestrian sports, and professional sports.[2][3][4][5] Broadcasters can produce live streams using mobile apps[6][7] up to professional production setups.[8][9] Audiences can watch or listen via mobile (iOS, Android), desktop (Windows, Mac), Apple TV, and other devices.[10][11]
As of 2019, over 155,000 events have been broadcast live on Meridix.[12]
St. Louis based Stadia Ventures sports technology fund backed the company in 2016.[13][14][15]
In 2005 the company secured “Meridix” as a federally registered trademark (Reg. 2930660).[16]
Overview[edit]
Technology[edit]
Meridix supports high definition video formats up to 1080p resolution through the use of the H.264 codec. The platform also supports high resolution audio through the use of the AAC codec. Transcoding and adaptive bitrate streaming are also supported. Incoming source streams use RTMP, and HLS is used for delivery to audience playback devices via HTML5. All live streams are automatically recorded and archived for playback at a later time. Monetization of content is also supported via pay-per-view (PPV), advertising integrations, and download sales.[17][18]
Service[edit]
Meridix operates as a self-service SaaS platform, serving both B2B and B2C market segments.[19]
Nomenclature[edit]
Each entity using Meridix (examples include sports teams, high schools, radio and TV stations, colleges and universities, others) chooses an identity called a LiveID. The LiveID serves as both the username for the broadcaster, as well as a handle that fans can use to locate the broadcaster's live streams, archives, and other content.
Integrations[edit]
Meridix is integrated with various software and hardware encoders on the market, including OBS, Wirecast, XSplit, vMix, Sling Studio, Hauppague, Magewell, and others.[20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27] It is also available through NBC SportsEngine and Microsoft Azure.[28][29]
Awards and Recognition[edit]
Meridix earned nominations in 2007, 2008, and 2011 for the Chicago Innovation Awards.[30] The company was featured at the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association's TechBuzz in 2014[31] and at Sports Tech Toyko in 2019. [32]
